What a joy to hear one of the world's greatest classical musicians play with one of the world's greatest jazz quartets!

Classical musicians always admired jazz players. Great job.

I know, but Perlmans facial reaction, and the chuckle from the audience, really implies a bit of snobbery. Notice, he agreed to play Gershwin. They ALL can agree on Gershwin. But Why not some John Coltrane, for instance? Are they too good for the room to play some real Jazz? This goes back to the Paul Whiteman Orchestra and Rhapsody in Blue. And how Paul Whiteman suddenly was the " King"of Jazz according to them at the time. This was when Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong couldnt eat or sleep in most of the better motels etc. But according to the Powers that be, Paul Whiteman and Guy Lombardo, and Rudy Vallee got all the work. Anyway, Thats what i read in to Perlmans introduction, an echo of those days.

Remembering that splendid performance of Itzhak Perlman with the Modern Jazz Quartet from "A Musical Toast: The Stars Shine on Public Television", which first ever aired as part of the conclusion of PBS' Festival '87 Pledge Campaign for many PBS stations including KPBS in San Diego, Circa Sunday March 22, 1987!! Sadly at that time, KPBS felt short VERY BADLY of its $450,000 goal and took only $370,208 for Festival '87, a sharp drop of the Festival '86(March 1986) take of $499,325!! TV Worth Watching and TV Worth Paying For!!!

Check out Itzhak Perlman & Larry Adler doing Summertime, on The Parkinson Show, on BBCtv, from the very early 80's!! 😲😲😲 Probably the most moving version I'll ever hear.

Ithzhak is just great but the definitive version of this number by MJQ is on their Porgy and Bess album with Milt Jackson playing most of what Itzhak plays--absolutely hypnotically.

Lord have mercy, what beautiful music. How lucky are we (humans) that GOD has gifted us, with having such accomplished musicians, in our lifetimes?? And, being a musician, myself, and a vibraphonist like: Milt Jackson (one of my strongest influences), and related to another, well-known Jazz vibraphonist (Roy Ayers), I have a special respect for the beauty of this music.

@MrBrianojee Dude Itzhak Perlman really is a very humble man.. he has a great skill and all the musicians playing with him in this piece know that far better than you do, MrBrianojee. Perlman gives each and everyone of them an intro, and a warm up of the crowd- what more can be asked for?

While I admire all and every great musician here, Itzhak Perelman and MJQ speak different languages, so there is no real "conversation" between the musicians (which is essential in "chamber music" of any genre). What's really strange to me is: considering they all are great musicians, they surely know that real music interaction is not happening here. - So why do the play this in a concert? - I cannot think of any other explanation except for commercial reasons. (Well, come to think that may be a valid reason nowadays : both jazz and classical need as much boost as possible to survive...)
