Those awesome horn and string arrangements. Were done by LONG time Motown Music Arranger/Paul Riser.

"It Must Be Magic" and "Square Biz" by Teena Marie seriously got my attention. And songs like "Portuguese Love", "Casanova Brown" and "Deja Vu (I've Been Here Before)" had me listening to ANYTHING she decided to play. I miss her. Another one of our beautiful gifted and talented musical greats gone too soon. RIP Teena Marie.

Teena's first two albums were on Motown. But they didn't put her face on the cover....so when people finally saw she was white they were shocked. As you say - soul is soul 😉

You're absolutely right! Everybody came together and jammed to each other's music. I miss those days. 😢

Teena was so amazing!! She should have been huge and not just in the R&b world!!! She’s like a female version of Prince!!!

The same can be said for another musical genius/El Debarge. Motown ruined Alot of promising careers. Both should have been Superstars for that company. the very least in the business.

My favorite Tina Marie songs are Portuguese LOVE and OUT ON A LIMB. The vocals are SICK

I have loved Teena since she first hit the scene. Her voice was just this magic thing that seemed so nostalgic. A lot of people thought she was Black. I always knew she was White. THE Blue-Eyed Soul Sister. There is no other.

For pure funk try the 12 in version of behind the groove. If my memory is correct I believe it was Richard Rudolph... Minnie rippertons husband, who produced it. She sang loving you. Back 2 teena, there are no bad songs. Still got all her albums. SHE IS THE GREATEST!!! YOU FEEL TEENA IN YOUR SOUL!!! And if you don't, you better go see the undertaker at the graveyard cuz you are dead and have no pulse!!!

First Class Love from Irons in the Fire (not the demo from Rare Tee) is amazing. The beat just never lets up and her vocals are stellar. Derf a suggestion. It never stops:-)
