I remembered LJG said he won't jump directly into a relationship, preferably getting to know that person well, shares common topics, able to fill each other. I don’t know much about IU, but there was a statement she'd been struggling with depression since debut, and finally likes her for herself. Looking at the timing, it was after Scarlet Heart. Ever since, he'd been like a big brother to her considering their age gap. He definitely didn’t treat her as a coworker because he had her named in his contact, while he named the others as character names. Things change as time goes by.
