It's about complicated relationships between mother and daughter. When we are young, sometimes our mother leaves us with wounds in our hearts, but maybe in our mother sight, that is the way she loves us. That's why in that house, when IU saw what Tang Wei hid was her with her mother laying with flowers, soft fabric, and loving gesture, but actually, what the daughter (Tang Wei) felt was cold, abandoned like she saw in the car trunk. But they love each other. After that "forgiving" and reconciliation, knowing each other perspective their relationship is like a friend. That's happened between me and my mom, too. I used to hate her when I was young, but after growing up, I know what she did was for my sake.

IU shared a letter that Tang Wei wrote to her after filming talking about her experience, and everything mentioned in the letter makes it very blatant that the relationship in the MV is about a mother and daughter (Tang Wei mentions key memories of her childhood and her relationship with her own mother, for instance). But I will say that the story in the MV is more than just mother-daughter, since there are two sides to the story and that part is only from Tang Wei's POV. IU's POV in the second verse is about a 'friendship'. And in that case, a GL angle is very plausible.
