Why are there so few of his type? A noble soul, a gentleman and an intellectual of the best sort. Multilingual, well versed in literature, classical music and all other Art. A wise man striving to be good and to see good in others. A gem of Poland, Europe, and the world. May he live forever!❤

He is one of my favorite filmmakers for all the reasons you say.

Zanussi has surprisingly good command of English language for a non-Anglophone. He gave very nuanced and intriguing answers.

He speaks about 6 languages quite well. A random silly factoid: the Italian Zanussi family of the refrigerators fame is a distant relation.

I'm deeply moved by what Mr Zanussi said. Not so much due to the contests but to the elegance of how he said that - calm and elegant, soft and with conviction. This is a man I don't have to agree with but definitely it is intellectual pleasure to listen and consider his opinions. I must admit that his latest film is very provoking in asking that question " free but for what ?".

Many Polish people when they speak English they "switch over" their brains in the way of pronounciation, mimical expression etc, pretending they are someone else than they are in reality as Polish people. But Zanussi speaks in the same way in English as he does in Polish, in the aspect of what he says and how he behaves. This is truly unique personality that seems to be totaly rare nowadays.

It's really amazing that at his age he has still managed to keep his mind so fresh and open.
