Note , there is a lot of strapping of tape around the leg. Any swelling around the catheter site will tighten the support strapping around the leg causing circulatory impairment. Regular monitoring around intra venous catheter site should always be done.

After seeing many videos , this video answered to my confusion on iv catheter. it is new to me and i thought a metal needle is inserted and kept there it self. but that is not the case. it is the metal needle that is used to prick into the veins and then , the "plastic catheter (looks like a needle ) is pushed into the vein. then the metal needle is taken out. it is so simple but i was thoroughly confused earlier.. because they show a metal needle in a plastic catheter and both of them are embedded and i did not know that it is the metal needle that is pulled out and the plastic needle-tube ( catheter ) pushed inside the vein. they continue showing the duo and tell that is catheter when i see there is a needle in it as well.

You’re not supposed to touch the place of catheter insertion with your hands. Use gloves. The tape should cover the area where you inserted your catheter needle at least an inch higher to have more support and keep that area clean. Use gloves. You should not take the bottom part of your catheter off, blood will still run through and it will protect from causing a bloody mess.

@@jessicacastillo7776 This type of catheter it is required to take off the back of the catheter too see a flash, you do not need to wear gloves. The area is already sterile, as far as being able to stabilize the vein, you are sterilizing the area so the needle doesn't push in bacteria from the skin into the vein not from touch. You do not need to scrub in to place an IV catheter.
