Burning can indicate IV failure, however some medications, such as Propofol anaesthesia, can be naturally irritating to the veins, regardless of how well your catheter works. It's common practice for anaesthesia providers to preload the Propofol with lidocaine because of the intense sting of the injection.

What is the limit in ml that the human body can take in a iv push?..As I am not a nurse etc..is it about 1ml a minute they should do it .

Had a nurse put my iv medicine in the port furthest away from my vein so that I wouldn’t get adequate pain relief. Charge nurse & patient relations dept was notified .

My husband had just had morphine in for the first time and they pushed it all at once. He said it was awful. Why didn't they push it slowly? Can you ask your nurses not to push the meds all at once?

While it is safe to administer some medications in a single push through an IV, it's not necessarily the best way. Patient's may report symptoms like tingling, stinging, or burning at the site of administration. Always report unexpected or unwanted side effects to your nurse or health care provider.

@@nursingandnclexmastery I had a nurse do this and within 10 mins I felt odd..My bp went from 110 over 80 to 179 over 110..ridiculous, I knew why it happened..It took several days to correct itself.
