Thank you for the tutorial. For those of us designing structures in seismic areas, not being able to use member nonlinearity for seismic loading is one of the main handicaps of SCIA. It is understandable that in response spectrum analysis, due to sign loss, there would be some challenges in implementing tension only members. However, one would imagine that in equivalent lateral force method, these would come as standard. Sadly this is not the case in SCIA, who still focuses almost exclusively on non-seismic markets.

I am sorry, but this must be asked directly at SCIA development. I am only a support engineer at one SCIA Partner. But, I don't think, that the lateral force method would be usable for most of the steel structures. This method can be used for regular structures and is very limited in usage.

Personally, I don't think, it is too complicated. It is a nonlinear calculation and for this nonlinear combinations have to be created. And they are created fully automatically. And then you have to define, which members have "tension only". What is complicated on this task? As engineers, we have to solve much more complicated tasks daily.

@@IvanBeles Hello Ivan, SCIA doesn't calculate when there is a seismic force into a non-linear combination. I need to take into account tension members. I don't know how we can do it. Does anyone have the solution? I have a master thesis to finish ;). Thank you

Thanks for your videos!! I would like to ask if the "Cable" members are the same as "Tension Only" members. In your structure example could we use "Cable" members instead of "Tension Only" ? What is the difference between these 2 types ?

Thank you for the english version of the video. Are there going to be video on how to set properly a 2nd order analysis in Scia ?

If non-linearity is only applied to combinations, how do you export non-linear loads by loadcase? For example, when doing foundation design, as per the Eurocode the foundation designer needs the information in SLS by loadcase so they can adopt their own combinations. But if the loadcases are analysed linearly then the foundation reactions from SCIA will not be correct.

I think, it has no sense to export nonlinear results of load cases. In nonlinear calculation, the principle of superposition can not be applied. You have different structures. So, the correct way, is to export the results of nonlinear combinations. But you can also create a nonlinear combination from each load case and run the analysis. Then you will get results for load cases also after nonlinear calculation.

What does the grey result mean?

The Check Values have 2 Limits. Ich the UC is below the smaller limit, then it is grey. Between Limits - Green, and over the second limit it is red
