I love that you`r reacting even to Sissel, "The Golden Voice". from the 1980s. Back then, as a young teenager, she gave us the record selling christmas album, all in Norwegian, named after this song. Back then she was our phenomenon in Norway, and I love how she carries her career until these days. Her amazing voice still makes me gasp for air, of the pure beauty she always delivers. A great favorit of mine ( and so many others I guess) is her "O Helga Natt" (O` Holy Night) kzbin.info/www/bejne/qXTLc2uVg7ejhK8 She is my favorit singer for this song, along side the great swedesh operasinger Jussi Björling.

Check out Sissel’s performances of this song throughout the years. From her youth throughout her career her maturing and mellowing is worthy of your time.

Sissel sings noble songs such as Silent Night with complete respect. I've heard more famous singers take liberties with them and fair dos, interesting & let them do so. But I find me returning to the preservationists, like Sissel, just to be reminded how the song was and is still.

Sissel is an unfashionable singer because she sings with perfect elocution as you've noted. So many singers don't try for good diction and for some it has no part in their performance of a song.

Second verse was done in German i think, Not Norwegian as i am from Norway and have seen both Sissel and Angelina Jordan. Still AJ is my favorite... Great reaction!

She may have been true to the lyrics & melody but the s-l-o-w tempo was painful to hear. Also thought her choice of a robe was inappropriate for this presentation.

So you don't like. That's OK. Our choir sings SN every Christmas at this tempo. And I've heard hundreds sing it over the decades.. just about this speed. Course you can swing it like Maria Cary but then you'd get a micro skirt which might be inappropriate.
