I can attest that most adults age 50 and below hate insurance companies and are realizing that paying slightly more in taxes for universal Healthcare would be WAY cheaper than the insurance premiums and copays we are paying. It took forever, but people are finally ready for Universal Healthcare.
@michaelthelen475019 күн бұрын
The federal government is $37 trillion in debt, and growing each year. This year, the debt will grow roughly $2 trillion. In that environment, it is a fantasy to believe that anything like universal healthcare is going to happen. It is more important to worry about Social Security, which is so underfunded that benefit cuts are slated to begin in the early 2030s. We already have more government than we can afford.

@@michaelthelen4750 Universal healthcare saves money. It's far less expensive to prevent an illness or treat it early than to wait. A healthier population is also more productive and reproductive. @scoreyj1319 күн бұрын
@@michaelthelen4750 What part of a tax to pay for universal healthcare do you not understand? The fact is it would save the American taxpayer about two hundred billion a year (this is the most conservative estimate btw) a year by going to universal. The majority of people would save money. The money for healthcare is already being spent but right now a lot of it is just going to corporate profits. Both can be done at the same time if done correctly.
@michaelthelen475019 күн бұрын
@@scoreyj13 There is no credible estimate that universal healthcare would save two hundred billion a year, although you could probably find an ideologically driven one. I for one am not interested in paying even more taxes to fund your healthcare. A responsible behavior would be for you to fund your own healthcare. One of the reasons this country suffers from enormous budget deficits is the entitlement of people like you who want to offload your personal responsibilities to society as a whole. Universal healthcare is widely noted for long delays in getting needed care. The National Health Service in the UK is a notable example. That is why there is still a private health insurance market in the UK. If you really want universal health care, you should probably just move to a country which has it. As noted, this country has enough budgetary problems that it isn't coming here for a long time, if ever.

I agree on the point with Pelosi etc. and would prefer Crockett, AOC, Moskowitch etc. But I am 58, I was born woke, I am not out of the touch with the "new" culture. The "new" culture among many young people is out of touch with reality, facts and knowledge about society and the world.

AOC should be the next Democrat Party candidate for President. Kamala Harris was so close to making it, a few decimal points from winning. Let Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez have a 4 year run to the next election. She will wipe the floor with any and every candidate.

You think the Beltway and Southern States would vote AOC!? AOC will not even carry New York State....stop making her more popular than she is....she is a Media personality...period. What necessary states do you think AOC will carry? Ohio? Michigan? Texas? Florida? Arizona? The Carolinas? Georgia? The right wing media would make mince meat out of AOC.

@bunzaroo It's funny how people think to run a Presidential campaign is so easy.....it's not...they say if Trump can be President....blah blah blah....when in reality it takes so much out of you, let's even start from the Primaries....the traveling, the Financial stress, the constant media attention, the security risks? The constant sweating on weekly and monthly polls...It's not easy to run a Presidential campaign...ask those that try to run as Independents. And somehow people feel AOC will be able to get Dem Donors to spend on her!? For one she won't even get the Jewish PACs to give her diddly squat, talk less of major Hollywood donors. Ain't happening.

These old Democrats need to step aside and get behind some of the young, dynamic Democrats, let them advise and lend their experience and let the next generation take the leadership positions. Maybe we need an age limit for both the congress and SCOTUS. It is very obvious we need major election finance reform, get this money out of politics, that would cut so much of the undue influencing and corruption.

We should adopt Australia's policies for campaigns. They are limited on how much money(everyone is allowed the same amt), time limit for campaigning & have to itemize where they spent the money.

I was watching a news spot last night about the Senate taking up the funding bill. The Democrat speaking about it forgot his lines and actually turned to the other old men to remind him. This shit has to stop. We need young leaders to take this country forward. It distresses me to see that integrity no longer means shit in this country but here we are. I am a lifelong Democrat, 68 years old, and find myself embarrassed by the party.

I am organsing a postcard campaign getting folks to write to Pelosi each week asking for her to retire so the new generation can take over. We need AOC! You can take action! Send Rep. Gerry Connolly of Virginia a postcard every week that he needs to resign because you will stay resigned from being a Democrat until he leaves. You won't get off the couch until he hands it over to the next generation. That AOC is a much better communicator than him. (If you have time, ring each week!) We need Jasmine Crockett! You can take action! Send Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) a postcard every week that she needs to resign because you will stay resigned from being a Democrat until she leaves. That you will stay on the couch until she hands over to the next generation, until Jasmine Crockett has her position. (If you have time, ring each week!) Send Nancy Pelosi a postcard every week that she needs to resign because you will stay resigned from being a Democrat until she leaves. It's time for AOC and Jasmine Crockett. Tell Pelosi that she is too out of touch. (If you have time, ring each week!)

The problem with registering as an Independent in Oklahoma is these closed primaries. There's a movement afoot to open them, but they've tied it to ranked-choice voting, which isn't as popular and may well tank the effort.

I agree about Maxine Waters, she needed to leave aftrr the housing crisis. Back in 2006 she hired me to decorate a hall space for a function she held to promote homeownership in Los Angeles sponsored by sub-prime lenders which turned out to be disastrous as we all know. Btw, the budget allowed for materials... $300.00!
