Don’t really need a “special” set of tools made specifically for guns,I’ve been working on all of my rifles,shotguns and handguns with ordinary tools,I even use some of my wife tool kit,the one with the little hummer,punches I have plenty that they came from? I forgot,scraps from here and there,and they work flawlessly every time

Yeah, taking that release lever out is another video. Taking those out of a long frame shotgun is a total pain in the backside

So I have an iver Johnson 28 gauge and i have no idea where to look for spare firing hammer Because I'm pretty sure mine is shaved down and doesn't reach the light bump thing lol... There's like a half centimeter gap between it
@IrishUSMCVet2 жыл бұрын
there should be a gap after it been fired, when the hammer is released under tension it should strike the firing pin then sit back off the firing pin, so you may open the breach. without shearing off the the firing pin during unloading. open the breach, make clear, no round in the chamber. then cock the hammer and put your finger over the firing pin hole, and squeeze the trigger. if the firing pin hits your finger then its not a firing pin(make sure there is no ammo in or around the shotgun, and wear a glove it may sting a bit if your fingers are sensitive) if you feel the pin come out, you could have a weak hammer spring. hope this help. lmk.

if it is truly the hammer you'll have to make one and have it heat treated or case hardened. sorry hard to diagnosis without having it in my hands.

16 Ga. choked down like a rifle?
@IrishUSMCVet2 жыл бұрын
Many of the older shotguns i run across, are specific use and are choked fully or not choked at all. I have not studied why. However i will look into it for the future.

@@IrishUSMCVet I have three old I.J. shotguns, , two 12 Ga. one in 16 Ga. All of them shoot fairly tight patterns at about 20 yards. A dime should just about fit in the muzzle of a 12 Ga, if it's full choke. "16 ga. choked down like a rifle" is a line from the old Tenesee Ernie Ford song, "Shotgun Boogie". There are a few "hardware store" brands, Excel is one of them, that are made by Iver Johnson.
