Vazhalikav is a small temple located near Bharathapuzha in a small area called Vazhalipadam in Painkulam village of Panjal gram panchayat in Thrissur district.
Vazhalikav is located at a distance of nine kilometers from Shornur station. Although the vehicle can reach near the temple, it is better to walk from the beginning of the field to the temple. A walk along a path drawn in the middle of a vast field by the pale catate is an experience in itself. Vazhalikav offers different viewing experiences in every season.

ഷൊർണൂർ റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ നിന്നും ഏതാണ്ട് ഒമ്പതുകിലോമീറ്റർ മാറിയാണ് വാഴാലിക്കാവ് സ്ഥിതിചെയ്യുന്നത്. ക്ഷേത്രത്തിനടുത്തുവരെ വാഹനം പോവുമെങ്കിലും വയൽ തുടങ്ങുന്നതുമുതൽ ക്ഷേത്രം വരെ നടക്കുന്നതാണ് നല്ലത്. ഇളംകാറ്റേറ്റ് വിശാലമായ വയലിനു നടുക്ക് വരച്ചുവച്ചതുപോലെയുള്ള പാതയിലൂടെയുള്ള നടത്തം ഒരു അനുഭവം തന്നെയാണ്. ഓരോ ഋതുവിലും വ്യത്യസ്തമായ കാഴ്ചാനുഭവങ്ങളാണ് വാഴാലിക്കാവ് തരുന്നത്.

Thank you for this very rewarding video which pulls me back to my childhood vacations in Malabar. In those days , mullu vellis or thorny fences were a common sight ..They provided a protective barrier for each house from wandering cows and goats. What fascinated me most was ...when the head lights of the only toffee-box like bus ( the only bus) cut through the darkness at night and illuminated the thousand rain drops shivering on the the protruding thorns of the velli. It was a magical sight. Equally enchanting was the heavenly smell of onnakka Mullan fried in the Ola peras adjacent to my grandma's tharavadu in Malabar, spreading an unforgettable aroma to all the neighbouri g houses, as also milk boiled on Ola kanni stoves. Those were days made beautiful with songs like Thekele ( chekele) by CJ.Kuttappan...songs sung by farmers at the water wheel. The rhythmic chant of "Allah Allah" by Mappila traders, pulling with great diffulty hand carts , heavy with coconuts collected from each house...as they pulled their heavy burden all the way to Kadakonchira. Unforgettable days. Thank you for including the tiny library overlooking the vast paddy fields...what a location, and the station...just the place for quiet contemplation while waiting for an express train to whoosh by. Loved this video for the happy memories they brought back of my ancestors, long gone...of times which were peaceful and when people lived in harmony with each other, and enjoyed every minute of simple rural living to the fullest.

On foot he would cover about 50- 60 houses in a five kilometre radius, come rain or shine. Duty , before all else for him. The same with Choyi, the coconut plucker, who lost his temper, if any one questioned him as to why he twisted several lengths of coir and passed them through the holes of an empty coconut shell, ( he had no faith in store bought kayyarru)to braid a rope to his specifications and satisfaction , to aid him to climb any where between 40 - 45 coconut trees in half a day...Great self belief, which is a prerequisite to integrity, was his driving force. Ithinayi the plough man who alternately, bullied and cajoled his bulls to their limits with his urgent cries "VAADA MOORI" , to plough the earth to form perfect concentric figures of 8; Kunjunni the dhobi who pressed all our clothes( with his heavy brass iron filled with smouldering pieces of coconut shell )to such perfection ,that it transfered a feel of royalty to us, when we wore them and stepped out in them. Ash- striped, Embrandiri who performed his Sudarshana and Ganapati homams with such fervour, hissing barely audible mantras, that we dared not ever cough in the smoke filled room while the puja was in progress, for fear of breaking his cosmic connection with God, and finally Peri , the heart and soul of my grandma's home , who swept all four courtyards so scrupulously and flicked cowdung slurry right round Puthiyaveedu, to complete the daily ritual of purification . Her other talents included cleaning mounds of sardines, when she was not plastering the entire kitchen floor, every Tuesday and Friday, with a cowdung slurry which she spread out with a paallaak in a delightful fan -like pattern all across the kitchen floor. A work of art! She was a Dalit , but we gave her the same respect, which we had for each family member ...for she also happened to be Vellimbratti's (my great aunt) trusted confidante and regular supplier of the choicest chunambu and pokkala( dried tobacco leaves )for their post -breakfast Vettila chewing sessions every morning. Truly sorry Sir, for rambling on and on , and trying your patience, but I truly miss those unforgettable days, when the people mentioned in this open letter to you, made life so much worth living with their strong principled presence and endearing ways. They cared! They dignified life.
