I see you can use more than one technique. This technique looks more difficult. I saw another video where the crotchet technique was easier. But she was doing her own hair so she may have used it to make it easier. Anyway, both techniques do get you similar results. But time wise, I would definitely go with the other way.

It doesn't come in shorter length. Default length is 18 inches but you can trim it to your desired length after installation
