About Ivory Layne:
Ivory Layne is a fully-faceted, out of the box pop artist. Her story is a vibrant one, beginning as a dreamer in her hometown of Denver, North Carolina (the “Denver of the East”) and currently set in Nashville, TN. Her artistic vision could be caught on a vintage film reel. She caught the eye of Justin Timberlake who signed her to his artist development company, Villa 40. Though 2,000 miles away from Hollywood, Ivory Layne is directing her own cinematic life as a woman unabashedly dramatic and undeniably herself.

Thank you so much! I'm truly #honored that you've followed my music over the years! YAS, definitely! I grew up drawing and painting, and I try to incorporate that into my adult life as a stress relief. I also love making cards for people and collaging from time to time. I adore the theatre (and miss acting very much!) and sometimes pepper in some creative writing like poetry to freshen up my brain. I wouldn't be who I am without art! Excellent question! 🌈✨

Amazing job! I discovered your music a few years ago when I heard Superman and I've been obsessed ever since! I've always wondered about your process, how do you flesh out an idea once it's in your head?

First off, thank you for being such a loyal listener, Alex! I'm so grateful! Excellent question...my process varies depending upon how the idea starts. Sometimes it's a melody line, other times, a lyric caught in my head. If it's a melody line, I like to hit record on my Voice Memos app (woohoo for iPhones!) and sing it over and over, searching for words and concepts that fit. It gives me a bit more creative space to try different arrangements than an instrument would (I write most of my songs on piano and occasionally on guitar!). Once I've come up with a rough idea I like, then I go to an instrument or my studio to flesh it out, but still with the Voice Memo recording--I find that some of my favorite lines of music and words have sprung from spontaneous moments when I'm not overthinking. If it's a lyric idea, I'll try to fit it into a melody immediately, so I'll go to the piano or my studio first. Sometimes, I'll mull over it for days, trying to find the right arrangement, especially if I feel like it's a solid idea. After ANY song that I've written, regardless of how I started, I play it out on the piano or my guitar. A friend of mine once told me that they best way to determine if a song is gold or just another song is to play it acoustically. Whew! I hope this novel is of some help to you in your creative endeavors! Thank you for asking such a great question! 🌈✨

I've wanted to be an artist since I was fourteen years old, and I've lived my life with that vision ever since! I'm also extremely moved by my fans and the people I meet at shows and over socials--your comments, stories, and encouragement help me continue working hard to release new music in such a tough business! Other motivators/inspiration: vintage movies like Singing In The Rain, the music of Peter Gabriel, pad thai, and trips to London! 🌈✨
