Something that really works about the 1919-1939 setting is how both Gotham's corruption and dark underbelly of the general time period make the rise of Batman's Rogues Gallery thematically fit and to some degree feel natural given the circumstance. Harvey and the War, Basil and the bottle, Pamela and the glass ceiling. and so forth. The era is birthing monsters and Gotham is one of its most notable nurseries.

Poison Ivy is one of my favourite Batman villains and you really did her justice here. Although at first I hoped you would play her straight and make her a science-fiction threat like Manbat or Freeze, I loved the realistic direction you took her in, making her a kind of Christiana Edmunds by way of Aileen Wuornos. This was one of the strongest depictions of her I've seen. I was really hoping she'd bump into Harley in Arkham and you didn't disappoint. Good episode. You and GiantPandaKing have crafted something pretty cool here. I hope we get to see a 1939 version of the Club Of Heroes, Dr. Hurt, and the Club Of Villains. Maybe? Possibly? Please? No? Also, why hasn’t Dr. Death shown up in one of these 1939 episodes? He’d be prefect for this time period. What was Ivy’s professor’s name? Was it Jason Woodrue, everyone’s favorite New Guardians member, the first Atom villain, part-time Swamp Thing villain, the Floronic Man/Floro/The Seeder/The Plant Master? Because in the second version of Ivy’s comic origin he’s responsible for turning her into Poison Ivy, so is it supposed to be or just some random jerk? Personally, I think this version of Ivy feels more like a more sinister Catwoman. Killing or at least hurting cruel and sexist men is something she does from time to time. This Ivy doesn’t actually feel insane. I prefer Poison Ivy as an insane plant supremacist, much like how I prefer Ratcatcher as a rat supremacist. The kind of Ivy who talks to plants as if they were alive is how I usually like Ivy, but this is still a pretty good version. Something I like about this version is how Harley is a part of Ivy’s story, not the other way around. These days it tends to feel like Ivy is stuck to Harley as her sidekick, but here Ivy gets a good amount of attention, and their possible relationship feels built up better. So congrats, you did something BETTER than the comics usually do.
