I agree some of Christina Aguilera stuff is great, but she also has some cotton candy songs that are so light and fluffy they make me ill. Take a peek at ZZ Ward. Delta blues sultry inspired, with some bit of rock undertone, the one with Lindsey Stirling on fiddle is a fun hoot "Hold my Heart" (mad hatter tea party theme). "When the coffin drops" is a good one, they used that one as a theme on pretty little liars TV show. *Lindsey is a treasure as well, she has worked with a lot of artists that all sing her praises. If you tilt towards hard rock/metal as I do, try Halestorm, Lizzy can belt out a few, her sultry "Familiar Taste of Poison" (watch the vid!) top notch, her hard rock "Love Bites (so do I) is a fav workout song of mine I got like 6 of hers for my work out mix :). She also does a bunch of covers CREDIBLY, her lady GaGa " Bad Romance" one is better than, GaGa (even gaga gave her a nod)! And there is the ever poignant Amy Lee of Evanescence. Her bitter sweet slow sultry "Good Enough" (especially the vid) top notch, her self depreciative "Everybody's Fool" vid is a emotion spiker. They always play the same 3 Evanesence songs on air, there is so much more depth to the albums. That's' just 3 of the female stars I'd recommend. You want to see something cool, how I stumbled on Ivy was this : Postmodern Jukebox. They take mostly female (few males) voice talent, dress them up in big band/jazz dresses etc. have a back up 4-5 piece band and take contemporary rock/blues/metal etc. songs and give them the big band/jazz treatment. Ivy was on one of them.
