Question - sometimes when I have overlapping images (a building then I add a tree behind it I see a very thin line between the joints when I zoom in. is there a way to weld the image so the black lines connect? Thank you for your kind comment! Regarding your question, I think the key advice would be to pick the same style of images to overlap on your book. So in your case, you may want to pick an image that has no black outline to match the other graphic elements on your page :)

Canva have released guidance which states you are not allowed to sell products such as e-books (but assuming it means anything printable too) on Amazon KDP if it means selecting you OWN the copyright. It states: 'Some third party print services may require you to agree that you own copyright in any design you upload to their service. If that is the case, you cannot use Canva content in those designs because you do not own the copyright in that content - you only have a licence to it'. Please could you add some clarity to this? Thank you :)

Thank you for your question and I would say it is best to read through the latest Canva TOS to be sure re what is allowed vs what is not, as it is constantly evolving (www.canva.com/help/licenses-copyright-legal-commercial-use/). I’m definitely not a copyright lawyer or anything but my interpretation is that you are legally able to use canva elements in your designs for commercial purposes as long as you make sure you create an overall unique design (ie make sure you don’t just take one element and slap it on a book cover and call it a day. That in every cover/ page you actually leverage multiple elements / backgrounds/ fonts to create a unique design. There’s also wording in the link above that states that generally you would own the copyrights of the unique design although that may be subject to third party rights (I think part of that is we have the license to use it legally but not exclusive rights, so there is a chance that others will be using the same elements in their designs too and you won’t be able to copyright that). However the way I interpret it is that overall as long as you are creating an overall unique design then you can legally sell them :). Also I think canva may have removed the language that you referenced as I no longer seem to see it in the link today. Again, that’s just my own interpretation but I’m not a lawyer :) - best advice would be to review their TOS once in a while to be informed on any evolving guidance. Hope this helps!

The closest thing would be 8.5 x11". Hopefully that would work for your coloring book too. I was surprised that you didn't show people to delete the template before uploading it to your computer. Otherwise, I've been working with Canva for seven months and you showed some features on Canva that I've never seen before. Now I just have to remember where they all were.

Regarding the removal of the cover template, it's a good point - in hindsight I should have shown that step as well. I personally never remove it though to be honest, as I end up adding elements that completely cover it anyway. I have questions regarding the bleed and page size because my book keeps getting rejected by the same reason. Which is that i have to ''add 0.125 to my book's page width and 0.25 for the height''. I've followed every single step of your tutorial and i have no idea what to do about that :(

Thank you for your comment. Regarding your question, I believe the most likely scenario is that you have selected "with bleed" but you didn't enter the correct page size into Canva (which can easily be fixed). For example, if your intended book size is 8.5" x 8.5" - if you selected the "no bleed" option, then you would just enter this size into Canva. However, if you had selected "with bleed" (like what I have shown in the video), then you will need to make sure you put in 8.625" x 8.75", which is exactly the 0.125" and 0.25" difference that KDP has mentioned in their error message to you. All you would need to do is make sure you increase your Canva page size to the bigger size I noted. Please also refer to this link here (see second column of table for "with bleed" under the "Bleed" section of this link/ page: kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/GVBQ3CMEQW3W2VL6 Hope this helps and hope you are able to resolve the issue and publish your book soon! It's optional whether you want to put it or not, especially for coloring books. However, if you do want to put that, you can either do it on an inside page (perhaps behind the "this book belongs to" page) or on the back cover. All the best!

I'm so sorry to hear. If you have saved your cover and manuscript as PDF print format and followed the exact steps of this video, the upload should work. If still not working, I would recommend contacting KDP support via their live chat as they would be able to diagnose the issue for you so that you can move forward with the uploading process. Thank you for watching my videos and supporting my channel! Regarding your question, I believe it is due to where you have added your blank pages. Just make sure your odd numbered pages (i.e. 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc.) are the ones with the coloring book elements, and the even numbered pages (i.e. 2nd, 4th, 6th, etc.) are blank pages. Make sure you go and check and fix that in canva and then re-download the PDF file to upload to KDP and that should fix this issue. Hope that helps!

According to them we cannot use canva elements for kdp anymore even we mix and create a new design.. they are not allow us to have our own copyright which means we cannot tick a box (on kdp uploading page) to say you own the copyright. I’m sorry to hear. I would go back to canva and check the margin sizes again to make sure they are large enough for all sides of the pages. And then recheck that nothing is over the margins, spine or barcode (for cover) and also nothing over margins for interior. The problem with making a coloring book this way is that the images will be quite inconsistent, with different thickness of the lines and them being quite different in style, which is never desirable, because chances are the buyers won't be happy about it. And another thing, the cover should only include the animals that are used within the interior, not just random animals, people expect the cover to depict what's actually inside the book.

That’s a really great point and would definitely recommend using one method or the other as opposed to mixing both (I wanted to show both methods for tutorial purposes so mixed them up in my video). However you are right that it would be best to make sure the lines are consistent from a thickness perspective:). The other way is on chat gpt to instead of saying black and bold lines you can say thin black lines to match the type of images you find on canva. Thank you for your comment!

I just created and listed my first Amazon colouring book. I will admit that I had the same thoughts. In the listing I do add a note saying that only the white sample images are in the book. I also thought about how there are a few different art styles which I'm not super fond of either, will add a note about that too. End of the day it was still a great helpful 101 tutorial to help get us started! I look forward to designing my very own hand drawn colouring books later this year. Wanted to get the practicalities out of the way first and just get started! There's so much to learn where passive income is concerned but it's also so much fun! 😀

No need for exclusivity with amazon kdp if you are publishing paperback books. Only if you are in the "Kindle Select" Program for amazon Kindle (i.e. ebooks), would you need to be exclusive to Amazon. Hope this helps to clarify!

Thank you for your kind support! Regarding your question- no the margins i showed in my video for the interior pages will not show up at printing. They are only visible when we are working on the draft version within canva. Once you export them to pdf print they would no longer be there. The cover template however will remain visible if you don’t cover it up completely with other elements. So best to make sure you cover completely or you remove the template layer before exporting. In my case for the video, I just made sure it was completely covered by the background element. Hope this helps!

Sorry for my delayed response as I have missed this one initially. Regarding kdp exclusivity, at this time, If you are planning to publish a paperback version there is no exclusivity requirement for kdp. The only time where exclusivity comes into play is if you are publishing a kindle ebook and have opted in to join their Select Program. However this would not be an issue for coloring books as you wouldn’t publish that as an ebook anyway. Hope this helps!

Thank you for the tutorial. I have a question, why didn't you use or indicate how to get consistent art style? I know as an artist and consumer, I expect if I buy a coloring book the art would be consistent. I wouldn't expect to get Stan Lee's style on some pages and Aaron McGruder's on others. Do you have any recommendations for consistency?

Thanks for your comment and questions:). I agree with you that when publishing we should always try to achieve a consistent style. In my video you will see some different styles because I was trying to show different methods of creating the colouring pages (ie canva vs ChatGPT). The best way to achieve consistency is not to mix methods like I did in the video :) if you keep your prompts consistent on ChatGPT (ie thick bold lines, or thin lines etc) you will generally generate very consistent style images if you generate them all within one session. For Canva method you will just need to be a bit more patient to sort through and find graphic elements that are of a consistent style. Hope this helps!

I’m sorry to hear about your situation. Are those 3 books very similar or the same? I’ve seen ppl get that issue if they have a same or similar interior but just different cover across multiple books. However, if this is not the case for you then you could also contact KDP support through their live chat to see if they can provide any further context as to why your books got blocked. Hope you manage to resolve this and get your books published!

Thank you so much for making such great tutorials! I would like to say that when I got to making my cover page I had to save the png file to my computer separately so I could upload it onto Canva. It would not let me copy and paste the image directly. Everything else has been spot on and I have enjoyed making my first coloring book. =)

Overall, this is a really good instructional video. But I was quite surprised that you used Canva Pro elements since that's not in compliance with KDP guidelines.

Regarding canva pro elements, there is actually no ban on using them for kdp publishing purposes as long as you use them along side other elements and make the overall design unique :). For example, you should never just take one canva element and slap it on the book cover and call it a day, but as long as you are layering it with other elements, backgrounds, words/ fonts then that is completely allowed. Thanks for your question and comment. Regarding the extra dimensions, if you have already added the extra length/ width and followed my video exactly, then the only other explanation is that some of your key elements are crossing the margins (i.e. key text, titles or graphic elements). Do a quick scan of your book to make sure you shift all critical elements to within the borders of the margin and then try uploading again. Hope that works!

Sorry to hear the issue you are experiencing. Usually two explanations to why you are getting this error message. 1. You have the wrong page or margin size during set up (but if you’ve double checked and did everything exactly as per my video then it might be reason #2). 2. You have critical elements (like parts of your main characters / graphics or words) crossing margins. If that’s the case the fix can be just to shift your elements back into the page without overlapping any of the margins then that usually fixes the issue when you resubmit. Hope this helps!

Regarding your question, I believe the most likely scenario is that you have selected "with bleed" but you didn't enter the correct page size into Canva (which can easily be fixed). For example, if your intended book size is 8.5" x 8.5" - if you selected the "no bleed" option, then you would just enter this size into Canva. However, if you had selected "with bleed" (like what I have shown in the video), then you will need to make sure you put in 8.625" x 8.75", which is exactly the 0.125" and 0.25" difference that KDP has mentioned in their error message to you. All you would need to do is make sure you increase your Canva page size to the bigger size I noted. Please also refer to this link here (see second column of table for "with bleed" under the "Bleed" section of this link/ page: kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/GVBQ3CMEQW3W2VL6 Hope this helps and hope you are able to resolve the issue and publish your book soon! Is it possible to as for some suggestions/help? I followed this video to a T, and keep getting an error email that the page size is not correct for bleed, it needs 0.125" added to the width and 0.25" added to the height. But it is already sized that way. So it also says if its already sized for bleed then to make sure I extend any images and back grounds that I want, at least 0.125 beyond the trim line, that is also already done, with images reaching the 0.375 margins. I've adjusted everything I've thought of, as well as some suggestions I've found online to try, and keep getting this same email. Any idea what the issue could be? Thank you!!

I’m sorry to hear! One thing I have experienced in the past is when some of my words or critical elements go over my margins slightly. They then gave me the same error message. Once I went back to adjust my images and moved them further into the page and away from the margins it was then ok and I was able to publish it. Perhaps check and try this to see if it might work. Otherwise, I would recommend contacting kdp support via their live chat to see if they can explain to you what specific thing needs to be fixed in your situation. Hope you are able to resolve it and have your book published soon - all the best!

Thank you for your kind comment. Do you have any other options of receiving payment outside of linking to your bank account in Philippines? Unfortunately my understanding is that currently KDP is not able to send payment to banks in the Philippines. I recommend contacting with Amazon KDP support to see if they are able to assist you and provide some alternative options. All the best!

Yes, that's correct. Amazon KDP will do the printing and delivery for you whenever someone orders your book. They will charge you printing fees (which will differ for each book depending on color vs. b/w and length, size, etc.). In addition, they keep 40% of profits while you keep 60%. I think if we use Canva images, the book will be blocked in KDP. Canva has updated their terms for images used for monetization... not sure though if this applies to simple lined images, like the one used for coloring book... Wishing for some enlightenment here...
