@shunkahato I think the reason that 99.9999% of singers sing in Egyptian is because Egyptian is the most spoken dialect and most media comes from Egypt so almost all Arabic speakers understand it perfectly. Many also understand Lebanese perfectly, but not as many as Egyptian. I guess it's the best way to reach a wider audience. The reason so many are singing in Khaliji now is probably for economic reasons I guess...lol

They all agreed this clip better than the first one and they are right. Congrats that you made new one nobody did it before so you had the courage for that and why not always in thought in this idea before so i'm glad my favorite ... did it. @nated0gggg I agree, they sing very well, I especially enjoyed Asala's songs and Ya yama habeito (I've been looking for this song for a month but I didn't know what it was called until now!) And yes, the Moroccan sounds very similar (at least to me) to Khaliji. Thank you so much for taking the time to give a list of these songs--you have been more than helpful and very patient with all of my incessant questioning. =)

@shunkahato Yeah, that's right. Almost all of Lebanese singers sing half of their hits in Egyptian (Nancy Ajram, Elissa, Nawal al Zoghbi). Lebanese is almost identical to Syrian/Palestinian as well, but the accent is a bit "smoother" - some say it sounds a bit French. Some think it's the nicest. It is widely understood now due to Lebanon being the most liberal country in the region, so lots of media comes from Lebanon now...not as widely as Egyptian, but the second most understood for sure.

@shunkahato No problem at all :-) This song is Iwan singing in Lebanese "Iwan - Akbar Kazabah" And this is a famous Khaliji duet by a Saudi and Emirati singer, search "Ghargan - al jasmi" and it should be the first one It's standard (99.9999%) for all singers to sing in Egyptian, especially Lebanese, but so many foreigners singing in Khaliji is kind of a new thing...actually I can only think of one Lebanese singer who only sings in Lebanese and never any others (Najwa Karam).

@shunkahato Good question. It does give them a name in Khaliji countries, but from what I know they really appreciate singers who do it well (Asala, Yara, Thekra, Mona Amarsha are all very popular). Singers who don't do so well at it are kind of not as well noticed, I think.

@shunkahato There are some differences, but hardly any...it's more like an "accent" kind of thing, like say the difference between Canadian and American English. Lebanese is definitely the second most understood dialect outside of its home country...although it's only spoken by a very small number of people as natives. Egyptian has around 80 million native speakers, so I don't really know if anything can overtake that...although Lebanese is probably gaining control in the media a bit.

@nated0gggg I can definitely see how Iwan is out of his element singing in Khaliji, the dialect sounds very difficult for non native speakers. I was wondering why some Lebanese songs sound slightly different from each other--I suppose some of the songs by Lebanese singers are actually in Egyptian Arabic. It makes sense, though, since it's so widely understood. Is Lebanese Arabic understood outside of the Levant?

@nated0gggg When I hear the Lebanese accent and Syrian/Palestinian accent, I can hear that the Lebanese accent is very smooth, and I like it very much. =) Aside from pronunciation, are there other differences between Lebanese Arabic and Syrian/Palestinian Arabic? Do you think that the Lebanese accent might become as popular and understood as the Egyptian accent in the next few years, or will the Egyptian accent still be the most understood?
