Damn, I never forget the joy of playing this game. Its was so cool & unique, thanks to this mode. Not just fighting, but the feel of adventure, story, unlocking & changing weapons were the things, that no other fighting genre game could give.

@@nunyabizness690 True. Hwang Sueng Kwang is a very skilled fighter. I'll also include Siegfried Schtauffen, who is an incredible Defensive Fighter. 3 Excellent fighters but I give Heishiro Mitsrugi the top spot. I'll put him in Top 5 skilled fighters in all fighting games history. Remember he is just as skilled even without his weapon.

I thought I was pretty good back when I played this daily, but I only ever beat Edge Master Mode with Hwang, Mitsurugi, and Li Long without losing, and I still took much longer than this. I'd say "I'd love to battle you sometime", but that would just translate into "Here's my ass: Kick it before I could even blink over and over again sometime." :)

LordSephleon Hehe, thanks for your comment and compliment :) Ever since the 16-bit era, I had competed with my brother in fighting games. So I had developed the skills in dealing with a human opponent, and because my brother is competent at games, I believe that helped me become better. With Soul Blade, my brother and I would play through the Edge Master mode to unlock the weapons for each character. We would take it in turns when one of us lost a mission. We ended up unlocking all the weapons. It was very challenging to beat some missions under certain conditions. My favourite character at first was Cervantes. My brother's favourite was Mitsurugi. I had tried Mitsurugi before, but initially found his combos tricky to execute. I later learned Mitsurugi and then Li Long. We would have some interesting battles using the special weapons. In one particular match, my brother used Taki and her ultimate weapon, Spirit Blade, and I used Mitsurugi and his ultimate weapon, Murasame. As the Spirit Blade has very high strength properties, I would only be able to block a few hits. I would have to take a few hits at certain points, in order to protect my weapon from being destroyed. I still find the weapon properties element a really cool feature of Soul Blade, and it can result in some interesting and strategic battles. I would later get Soul Calibur for the Dreamcast (still my favourite fighter), and go on to play in a national tournament. I felt the experience gained in that tournament greatly improved me as a player overall. There was then a period of 5 years where I didn’t play Soul Calibur at all (as my Dreamcast broke), and a period of 12 years since I played Soul Blade. I can see in my early Soul Calibur videos, how much I’ve improved since then until now. It’s interesting to see how a player evolves. I’m looking to return to making new Soul Blade videos, particularly Edge Master mode videos with each of the characters. I hope someday that the emulation will be at such a stage, that it will allow for online play of Soul Blade / Calibur, as I’d love to be able to play against other players at these 2 games. My brother no longer wants to play me at these games lol.

I grew up with close friends (who are basically family at this point), but I was always considered the "game master" by them since I played games obsessively in order to perfect them back then. They played against me in Street Fighter 2 (and a little Mortal Kombat) on Super NES, but then they never played me in any fighting games again (though in high school, I had a rather interesting Finals week during Sophomore Year when a bunch of newer friends came over and we had an impromptu Battle Arena Toshinden 2 Tournament... I lost one fight because I got careless with Gaia). So by the time I got my hands on Soul Blade, no one played against me anymore. I only had the computer and the infrequent opponent at the arcades. I started with Li Long and Mitsurugi in the arcade (and Cervantes as well when he happened to be unlocked; I love pirates, two-weapon style, and possession, but I couldn't master him). When I got the console port, Hwang became one of my top three almost overnight. Mitsurugi was generally my "I'm going to try to end this fight quick" character, but Hwang and Li Long were my preferred characters for good competitive play. I just straight-up sucked with Cervantes even though I wanted to be good at him. Honestly, though, most of my fighting game experience has been against computer opponents since the PS1 era, and I know I'm no match for human opponents who have at least an idea of how these characters move and fight. It would be great to get back into Soul Blade (and Bushido Blade as well; I love the semi-realistic fighting and damage mechanics there) if emulation ever gets an online aspect.

Why can't they give back mitsurugi those long strings combos in soul Calibur instead so of the moves that just doesn't fit him?....it is time for soul blade string combos and some good moves to come back to him and the others.

The setting's are changed to play the Khan sessions music rather than the Arcade or Arranged soundtrack. Haunting wind is a pretty cool song on this version.

check out a series made by Monty Oum called RWBY(Red, White, Black, Yellow). Monty made trailers for "Red" and "White" for now. I've seen both of them and dude its awesome. Its here on KZbin on Rooster Teeth's channel. I was amazed by it and I can't wait for the "Black" trailer. Check it out when you have a chance. Its awesome. I guarantee it.
