The wallplate straps are for storm lift movement. Great video!
@edskapin7171 Жыл бұрын
This is a UK video only. Wall plates need to be mechanically fastened to masonry in North America and most countries in the world. The 4" block is also not allowed either. The 4" block is used as filler only and not structural. Just saying!

Fair play for doing extension work I do the same and am 29 this year, my most dreaded days are getting out of the ground workers wavy footings, from that point it’s happy days🤣 that lintel you should be fine with as it’s not a heavy load…I’ve had the same gave cavity lintel 120 bearing 2400 opening but was only carrying 5 courses with balcony roof behind 👌🏼 get yourself some fitzbrick clamps if you haven’t best little tool ever and feels so good every time you can use them 🤪

@@brickpug6088 bollocks mate our ground workers seem to think wet concrete finds it’s own level end up cutting splits on the first course, all caving in, loose patio slabs, concrete slab never has right cavity size so I have to sort that out…site work is piss easy because it has to be bang on from the start

Do you not put wall ties in
@MrJimjam2011 Жыл бұрын
The straps are vertical restraint straps. To stop the roof lifting off in high wind. In the UK they should be max 2m centres and one at each end of timber.
@edskapin71712 жыл бұрын
Air space between brick and 4 inch block is large in some areas and tight in others? I assume you're putting in vapor barrier and insulation in? What are you doing to insulate the walls?
@user-DANWALKER1066 Жыл бұрын
Mentioned on another video about using a wire reinforcement mesh to wrap it around the base of the wall plate and then that way the wall plate is ready for plastering inside. It does actually work the wall plates solid on there even though I know the roof weight will hold it down. See so many times the internal wall plates not meshed and just plastered over and it all cracks from the wood…
@edskapin7171 Жыл бұрын
Izzy how are you fastening the wall plate to top of masonry wall? Obviously mortar bed does nothing. Cheers!
@IzzytheBricky Жыл бұрын
Hi mate, we use lateral restraints. A long L shape metal rod, anchors onto the timber and the wall below
@edskapin7171 Жыл бұрын
@@IzzytheBricky I have seen some UK masonry video's where other masons install the top plate on the wall in a bed of mortar? We use structural block 6-8" wide and cast bolts with in top of wall and mechanically fasten wood to block. We have to install protection by code between wood and block to keep wood from rotting. Also brick work if used has to meet certain PSI rating. Brickwork here is used mostly as veneer here.
@tridens6708 Жыл бұрын
The wall plate should also be drilled and fastened to block work straps are not enough where are the wall ties?
@edskapin7171 Жыл бұрын
@@tridens6708 4" block is also not structural. Should be using 6-8 block instead of 4" block. Missing corefills and bond beam to make this a proper structure. You then bolt the PWF plate to the bondbeam which is filled with concrete.
