For me the most hard thing to learn in this movie was about the Strauch cousins their kindness and strength for rationing and don’t let anybody know how they did it and keeping it all inside in their hearts in order to don’t make anyone feeling guilty 😢 breaks my heart they were just kids trying to survive 😞💔 the Strauch deserve all our respect and compassion
@Necyn

I read Strauch book. It's a beautiful book about his spiritual feelings over the whole thing. It not much about in great detail what happen up there, there other books with other survivors that explain things in detail. It's more about his inner thoughts about his home and the love and closeness he had with his family

@teasecremeactually, they were starving and freezing while shooting the movie. Enzo was only eating a can of tuna and a tangerine a day in order to get not only the look but the experience as well. He spoke about it in many interviews; they also shot the movie in a place where it was freezing cold and it was as close as it could be from the climate conditions in The Andes, cause they didn't use a green screen, Bayona was looking to recreate the experience. He wanted the actors to feel what the survivors felt. It was very important for him to get as close as they could to the real story to really capture the struggle and pain.

I think that the most precious thing in this life is to sacrifice for others. It's something very human that's why Numa is so special and authentic. Of course the human beings have this animal part, but what make us human is our soul and our true nature is being generous and cooperative with others. It's a pity that they think that Numa should have been more animal and had to accept that. Because the point of this character is that he is the only one (as far as I know from the film) who cared about the spiritual implications that's why his behaviour is so human.
@FefiBurgos
@FefiBurgos 11 ай бұрын
He wasn't the only one that cared about the spiritual implications of eating human flesh! For most of them that was a big dilemma and it was depicted, they had several discussions about it, moral, religious and practical implications of choosing to eat or not. Numa couldn't accept that eating was the only real option they had, as Bayona said, he had to understand his animal side that needed to be fed, but did it so late that he was incredible weak and ultimately died. Not sure why you say "the point of this character": Numa died in the movie because that's what happened to the real person, in real life, it wasn't a choice of the director or the script.

The fact that the Academy finally did not give this film any Oscars reveals the political and economic interests of the American Film Industry to protect "their exclusivity" in making "the best" blockbusters. So, the Oscars Academy did not give any award to J. Bayona's film because it threatens that exclusivity: Bayona is a Spanish director who has shot the best blockbuster of the year, with a full cast who speaks Spanish language (and not English as the production companies wanted to imposed on Bayona).

I first knew about this story 52 years ago, when I read front page of the newspapers in 1972. since then I have read all the books, seen the 3 movies SURVIVE 1976, ALIVE 1993 and Society 2024. So transfixed that I even sing the song- Break it all- (the song at the airport scene) on my youtube channel. Its very real for me as I am similar age to the survivors. 💖💖🌹🌹New Subscriber here ✌✌

The latest "movies" are about rewriting the past, changing color, gender, orientation, and maybe even diet. Hats off on this one for not getting lost in trends, agenda and "the message"! All the effort are put in the right place: show the crude reality, hold nothing back.! Unsurprisingly, feels very, very respectful in such a tragedy. If 2024 starts like this, maybe is hope for great movies, with great characters that feel real. Great Interview/ chat btw!
