"Crooked Smile" is more of a metaphor as you get more into the song, like where he talks about the makeup and such. "Crooked Smile" is a metaphor for the natural flaws that we have that make us human. And as humans, we're not perfect, but we have to love ourselves regardless. Basically, we do not need to conform to the world's society to be considered BEAUTIFUL. Your husband loves you, for you! :)

If I ever have the chance to ask J. Cole one question, I would ask him what was the true reason behind writing this song. Its absolutely beautiful. Love how he featured TLC. Many of this generation do not know who they are. I'm so glad these types of songs are out to remind us and the culture that we live in that everyone is beautiful because god loves everyone equally.

J. Cole is one of the last good rappers who actually tells stories through his music. Amazing how this song goes from talking about a young woman's insecurities with her looks, to the racial and social barriers and stigmas that still exist to this day. This is how songs should be written in ANY genre.

Austin Padmore if you’re gay then yeah but cole said himself that a lot of this is aimed towards the women. “Love yourself GIRL or nobody will. Oh you a WOMAN? I don't know how you deal. With all the pressure to look impressive and go out in heels. I feel for you. Killing yourself to find a man that'll kill for you. You wake up, put makeup on. Stare in the mirror but its clear that you can't face what's wrong. No need to fix what God already put his paint brush on. Your roommate yelling, "Why you gotta take so long?" Forgot about this song for some unbeknownst reason. I took the message to heart back then as I was fast forwarding to me today. I had a girl recently that always put Gloe on her face and I asked her why did she feel obligated to do that all the time. It's crazy how subliminally a real artist can plant a positive seed of direction for you to apply to your personal life in so many ways while maintaining their relevancy. God has blessed you King Cole. Please keep on using your voice and platform to shine light over any type of datkness a person might be going through.
