Jennifer Higdon is an American woman who was born in 1962. This work was commissioned in 2003, when she was just 41 years old. She is one of VERY FEW composers of her generation, anywhere in the "western" world, who understands what genuinely beautiful music is. Brava!

A sane living classical composer? I love this and I should listen to more by her.

If you take LSD living composers can't be quite good.

I believe this is the right direction for modern composers to take. While Jennifer's music can be a little repetitious at times, it creates beauty employing diatonic harmonies and doesn't rely on many of the modernist cliches such as extended techniques or minimalism. Many of her works start out so beautifully, it seems there is nowhere left to go, other than louder and faster. Since she is commissioned by many, the works are expected to be a certain length; I, personally find myself often listening to the first part of her movements, then skip the middle. This is an 8-minute movement that could be edited to five minutes. But it's very, very nice music.

Sentimental minimalist dribble that will be relegated to the dustbin of music history
@rickhirschoff86624 жыл бұрын
Yeah, just like Mahler was left in that dustbin until 50 years after his death. What a wasted 50 years!

It's definitely not dribble, it's profound. To those who actually have an ear.
