As a lover of Hip Hop from NYC, I’ve witnessed Flex go from supporting and saluting the real and true Hip Hop culture to following behind what’s mainly popular (in my opinion). JID is an INCREDIBLE AND IMPECCABLE LYRICIST and artist. Fukk anyone’s approval and always believe in yourself and the gifts you were given. Hope he returns to freestyling. 💯

It's crazy how that pretty much seem like a foreign concept or lost art to him. That's not something Lil' Wayne was doing specially. That pretty much used to be the only option. If you're getting original beats it may as well be your album. Not a "mixtape" or whatever.

@@JugOnBlast yeah you’re wrong. Lil Wayne started the rapping over others beat thing. Might wanna go do a lil research by guy. It’s why he’s a mixtape legend. And he was doing it for free. That’s why he used others beats because he didn’t want to pay for beats for a mixtape in which he was gone drop for free. Single handily changed the mixtape game. I think you forget people didn’t used to put mixtapes out for free. They actually used to make money off them.

I think the freestyle is a integral part of a hip-hop scene. It doesn't necessarily have to be made up on the spot because so few rappers can do that at a high-level, and it would make most rappers look bad if they had to actually make it up on the spot, but if you don't have a 16 ready to go at all points to prove who you are and what you're about, then I think that says more to who you are as a rapper as far as preparedness. And most people discover new artist based on a quick freestyle they saw from an interview so it's important to be able to freestyle a good verse at any time it's like a rappers handshake.

Because we dissect freestyles so scathingly now, rappers have to have brand new, never before heard, never to be heard again rhymes just ready to go for these radio shows. So I could see why any rapper would rather just not do a freestyle. I thought JID did excellent on Flex and I was also surprised by Flex's reaction. But I don't think JID should let that make him feel like he didn't kill it. I think Flex treats freestyles differently now than the era JID was envisioning and Flex seemed to treat JID's presence on the show more as like a Dreamville connection instead of actually being excited to have JID on the show. I had to go back and listen to the freestyle to see if Flex was tripping or not, and to be honest, to do what JID did shows he can rap, because it's not easy to memorize all that and use different flows and stay on beat with 2 different beats. Don't know much about his music but I'd imagine that he probably makes pretty good music. As far as radio freestyles go though I get why Flex wasn't hype. If we're being honest he was rapping a whole lot of nothing even though he was doing so skillfully. That's not going to get it done in that setting. If you really want to get a reaction have to be saying something that connects. The punchlines and the wordplay have to have some kind of relatable connections to the listeners. I don't feel like Flex was unfair at all he was actually very polite for the performance because I've seen Flex borderline disrespect people for coming up there and spitting some nonsense.

I think JID is better as writer than a freestyler. You should definitely check out some of his work, especially his newest album. I think his talent lies in his story telling and flow switches, as well as his diction. I also really hope he gets back into freestyling like he says because it would only be a matter of time before he's one of the best.

Hearing people call memorized pre-written lyrics 'freestyles', is kinda annoying when there are people like Harry Mack who really are rapping off the dome. I think it'd be beneficial for both memorized freestyles and in-the-moment freestyles if the destinction between them would be made clearer to the audience.

When did real rappers start caring about what silly people like Flex thinks? Be true to yourself... saying you stopped freestyling cuz some dude didn't give you shine is lame af, his show or not. Why even go on the record giving him that kind of power over you? People are 2 soft these days...

@ThePowerOfOneThePowerOfTwo Жыл бұрын
I get what you're saying, but the dude said it was a dream of his. And it ain't like that shit kept him from succeeding. It ain't like he's stopped rapping because of that. It's more of a "why waste my time if that's the reaction I'm gonna get?" typa shit. Mans was casting his pearls before swine 🤣

JID was dropping gems back to back and Flex ain't say nothing once. As a hip hop head it's kinda sad that even people who were once true to hip hop are starting to follow whatever is popular.
