I still remember the promotion for the announcement of the book. Marvel had a countdown that started from four and everyone thought it had to do with Rami's Spider-Man 4. When it was revealed what it actually was you could feel the excitement deflate like a balloon. It was hilarious. 😂

I remember when they started a count down for this book with a just a "webbed number 4" and on the same day Alex Ross posted concept art from the original Spider-Man movie and everyone and their mom JUMPED THE GUN confirming that it was a Spider-Man 4 announcement. Listen kids, if you have a job because your dad's name is in blue in Wikipedia... that's fine. Stephen King's son is a good writer. Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke's daughter is a really good actress. But if you're really bad at it, and you put zero effort on it, and you waste everyone's time... you 100% deserve to be made fun of. Or, at least, your work.

I do not consider JJ Abrams to be a good writer. His whole 'mystery box' philosophy doesn't work when he doesn't even know the answers to any of the mysteries he sets up. I'll admit, he does make entertaining films and tv shows, but he always comes up short.

I have no doubt that being Stephen King's son made it easier for Joe Hill to get a job writing comics. However, in all the years he's written comics, I can't think of a single example of Joe Hill putting his dad's name on the cover of one of his books. I think he just trusted that his stories are good enough to stand on their own.

This feels like one of those 90's/early 2000's screenplays that some director that knows barely anything about comics wrote. Except instead of going off of what's in the public consciousness, they grabbed all their info on the characters from a Marvel Universe Handbook page. Also, I remember reading the first issue and thinking it was a worse rendition of the ideas that were present in Spider-Girl. Seems like I wasn't wrong after all. Great episode guys!

So this story has Peter's teen kid becoming a Spider-Hero, and Peter lost a limb. Sounds familiar... The Abrams way seems to just be: Step 1: Look at existing story in franchise. Step 2: Copy it, but shitter. Same with the overly complex parents blood involved in the spider. That's ASM2.

The whole “name thing” with Ito might be reference to the fact that in Japan people say the surname first and the forename second, so Ito would be her last name but it would be said first? Seeing how wannabe manga the rest of the book is, this feels like a random tidbit that Abram’s son knew that he wanted to drop for the “street cred”.

I remember when this was announced. I also remember at some point it was compared to DC hiring Stephan King's son, Joe Hill, to do a line of horror comics for DC. I think the Abrams comic got more attention but the Joe Hill comics got more praise.

To Joe Hill's credit he goes by a different last name in his writing to avoid that connection/nepotism. And his comic work has been good
