Isolating JLo’s vocals and you are left horrified what they actually did while mixing. That was genius sound engineering there. The shout out “ From the Bronx” and the laugh were iconic in the song and they did use Natasha’s for a reason - she has a beautiful voice and a vibrant laugh. What was done was unacceptable in artistic sense and any artist with any integrity and self respect would not have done it.

The producers from "Murder Inc" which was Ashanti's record label in the early 2000's went behind her back and sold it to Jennifer. So, after that Ashanti volunteered to sing a few lines on it because she had wanted it to be for her. She said she did sing on it but not that her vocals were left on it. It's Brandy who sold her song Ride or Dye to Jlo and left her vocals on it when she herself should have removed them before selling it not somebody else.

I’ve been an obsessed w J.Lo since she switched from actress to singer/performer. I was like 16-17 when that happened. I watched her blow up & purchased her first 3 albums and watched her on TRL. Even I have to say…she doesn’t have the strongest vocals but she has the vibes. I’m an even bigger Mariah fan and once again…J.Lo doesn’t have the vocals although in recent years she’s been really working on her voice and I applaud her. But she did steal Ashanti and Christina Milian’s vocals and/or left the original vocals from the samples she used for her music. It’s obvious when you listen to it but you’re distracted by her presence. J.Lo can DAAAAAAANCE! Who moves better than her? It’s kinda like don’t compare her to real vocalist compare her to Janet Jackson & Paula Abdul. Those are 2 legends who ,like j.Lo, don’t have the best vocals but when you add stage presence, dance skills, vibes are all the package they’re selling and we’re here for it. To be honest, to me she sounds so much better when she sings totally in Spanish. Her voice sounds so much more rich and controlled. She sings slower and actually holds her notes longer. She released an all Spanish album in 2007 produced by Marc Anthony and she does a pretty good job. Maybe she should do more Spanish “Celine Dion” type stuff.

Anyone who was around back then remembers how TERRIBLE JLo sounded live at the the MTV video music awards in like 2001. I’ve tried to find it since then but I think it was scrubbed from the internet. I was a teenager then and I remember thinking dang, she’s just like Paula Abdul: just a dancer with absolutely NO musical talent masquerading as a “singer”. Then by like 2009 They were real invested in everyone on tv pretending like she had talent as an artist when she did American idol.

her voice was defo covered by ALOT of background harmonies, but she did still sing her parts other than Play with Christina Milian. The whole thing is blown way out of proportion, but yet ppl will diss her and still listen to all these other girls who do the same thing and cant sing live like janet, ciara, aaliyah who are prominently dancers.
