if you want just an entertaiment this is the band, bc for now KT not the band for the good sound, the good dance, the good formation, etc still far from perfection, very different from their predecessor like KT from 2017-2019, they are the best in many aspects, for this newest team they need to practice more especially for the new 1st grade, sometimes like the clarinet section they making their own sound that hurt my ear🤦 thanks for the upload, your video take very close to the DM and front line when they start marching, so we know what happens, no other channel as close as you do, maybe one day you can have gimbal stabilizer, arigato...
Your words "very different from their predecessor" are so right. But some people don´t like hearing that - when it should be just a matter of taste, not right or wrong as in politics or some religions. The Music Director you see here was, according to some information, head hunted to make KT into a string orchestra - I think the translation I received was not totally accurate. The previous Music Director resigned (not retired, he began to work with another school). After a few years it becomes obvious why he resigned, the two approach music from very different standpoints. (If I had to sum it up the previous music director had music in his blood, and wished to pass that on, the present one has music in his head. They cater for very different audiences.) At first the change didn´t seem to affect things and there were successes in the more formal type of competition, but changes slowly worked their way into the marching performances. Not just more formal tunes but very different arrangements. And here it is a matter of taste. In this video it begins with "Down by the Riverside", but it is certainly not a version the previous Music Director would have delivered. And people should be free to state an opinion but no doubt some people will get abusive. Even before they began the dance routines in 2005 this band could play a mix of both formal and tunes with a swing. It looks like the arrangements of the previous MD (who confessed he couldn´t dance) blended and enhanced the dance routines the girls devised themselves. Whereas now, yes it is good music, but for some lacks the vigour of the older arrangements. The trouble is some people think that good music should not be described as "Entertainment", and they have the right to that view. But for others, who found most marching bands boring, KT came along and we were entertained - but they didn´t just "light up the streets", they could also light up a concert hall. Now it seems the objective is not to light up anything but to be pleasing. I wish them luck at the 2025 Rose Parade, but I would be really interested in not just watching their performances in the USA, but looking at and hearing the the audiences reaction as they take up their own recordings. As a footnote I still think KT are the tops, but other bands are breathing down their necks. This is especially noticeable if they adopt some of KT´s movements, most effectively in stage performances, but then normally fade back in stadium or marching environments. KT has a good reception in Taiwan, but I just wish the old MD could have taken them there. The performances were good but I kept having the feeling of "on the shoulders of giants" - nicely played Swing tune, except the swing part had been left out. And for those who think this is a hate message there is a very popular tune to be found on KZbin - Sun Quan the Emperor. I have found at least 12 different arrangements. For me only 3 of those give me enjoyment, because of their arrangements. But if other people chose differently that´s fine. People have different tastes but the older KT, for many, had a spark which you rarely see in a marching band. That´s life - change happens. And to find a Music Director who can work his magic in both formal competitions and street parades is a rare find. As was said about ABBA "Thanks for the Music", with KT "Thanks for the Entertainment". And for those out there "Enjoy what you Enjoy".
