Thank you very much for focusing more on the percussionists. I always look for them in every videos. Thanks for sharing the video. I always start my day by watching some videos of these talented and amazing band, they never fail to brighten my day. I hope one day I can visit Japan and watch them perform.
Very Nice....job well done nakowoeki, under less than idea conditions you caught the wind club members doing their best yet.Saw a few familiar faces in the crowd....plus they received a nice applause at the end. A long day, but their smiles are proof that each student is doing what they love. Thanks again.

19:44 SICK RECOVERY none of the back half knew what they were playing, listened to the drummers who knew, and came right back in during the same measure. Wow…
I really like the xylophone player,I have watched her in numerous videos,the xylophone is nearly as big as she is but she always looks as if she is really enjoying herself,it would be great if they performed in the UK as we do not have school marching bands over here
I hope to see them again in Olympics Opening Ceremony 2020.

I think these young musicians are brilliant, and their choreography is beyond just being good, to be able to play their various instruments and dance these hard steps to, “ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT YOUNG MUSICIANS” !!! They will go a long way!! Their school and teachers must be very proud to have such fine Musicians. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!

Phillip, I agree with you 100%!! I'd give a lot to see Tachibana in person or, better, go to Japan and serve an internship there to see how they select their members and develop their program. The most remarkable thing: their unity of spirit. You get the feeling that the members of the band truly love, respect and encourage one another. Far different from American bands. I live in Dallas, TX and there is NOTHING in this area that can hold a candle to Tachibana, not even the 700+ member Allen, TX marching band (Dallas suburb). I see on the Tachibana unofficial blog that Tachibana will have new band directors after 2018; I hope the high quality of the program will continue. I don't think I've ever enjoyed anything in music as much as I enjoy Tachibana, and I have an extensive music background (instrumental music degree and plenty of performance experience). Phillip, did you know we almost dropped the A-bomb on Kyoto in WW2?? If we had, we would never have had this wonderful band to brighten our lives.

@@fredericmartin7148 Training 7 days / week throughout the year with just a few days off is an excellent way to weed out the uncommitted. Did you have a chance to read the interview and view some of the documentaries showing how they train?

IF anyone has played a musical instrument, then tried to march, memorize music, memorize 3 part marching, dancing, staying in position, smiling, marching for miles..... then one can fully appreciate what you have just seen. Kyoto Tachibana HSB is undoubtedly the VERY BEST. i would love to see them in person, but in retrospect, seeing them right here on video is a great pleasure to be able to see the ultimate in performance.
@jagerardi5 жыл бұрын
No much "weeding out," and no one is really "uncommitted." This is an after school CLUB, nothing more, and no one is turned away who wants to join. That said, they are given complete knowledge of what they are in for in terms of training and requirements before they commit. Interestingly, kids leaving the band after joining is extremely rare. Also, many kids go to Tachibana specifically to join this band- there's around 1100 students at the school, and almost 10% are there for the band. The songs are picked by the kids themselves, the choreography is designed by the kids themselves. They have a freelance marching coach come in every few days to help them work it into marches, and the upperclassmen teach the students. They practice 37.5 hours a week during school, spend 2 weeks at a band camp during their summer vacation - 1 to prepare for the National Competition - and have exactly 5 days off a year. All anyone needs do is dedicate themselves to the same level, and they can be just as good. ..Joe

HOW IN THE WORLD can these High School students memorize all these precision routines! Without a doubt the ARE THE VERY BEST. I can't see enough of them... they are very talented in EVERY way. instrument playing, marching, dancing, 3 part marching routines, Gotta love them. Thanks for allowing us to see what greatness your band displays. Excellent in every way. I am going to Kyoto in February 2019 and i'm wondering how i might be able to see this group in person! anyone have suggestions??

You can check for their schedule here: kyototachibanashsbandunofficialfanblog.wordpress.com/. Normally the earliest public event would be the Sakura Parade at the end of March, but this year they will have a stage show at the 21st Kansai Stage Marching Festival on February 3, 2019. Buying ticket would be challenging though because the demand would be high.

It's not that big a deal. How do grand ballerinas memorize a 2-hour ballet? How does a gymnast memorize a complicated floor routine? How does a tap dancer memorize a song and dance? It's called practice. Hours and hours of practice. First to learn HOW to do the steps, then to learn WHEN to do the steps. KT doesn't really have a lot of different moves- they reuse them quite a bit. But, it's the joy, the happiness and how they use what they have with those steps that make it all work. ..Joe

If you get to see them, please tell them that Americans sit in awe and would love to see them in person also. I was a dancer, a baton twirler, a musician, a singer and I'm telling you to play this well in high school and to dance all that way at the same time is very difficult. Lots of stamina. Their joy and wholesome presentation brings tears to the eyes. They have some excellent directors for sure!

And did you notice the girl who is the sit-down drummer at the full kit swapped out the quad toms and moved over to snare? I'm wondering if she's graduating this year and giving a younger student a taste of the weight and requirements to play those while marching? I'll be sad to see her go- she's not as flashy as Yuina Mita-san, but I think she was a more solid drummer. The girl who ended up on the glockenspiel was also playing another instrument for the first part of the march. ..Joe
