1994 I worked for Baxter Healthcare, Immunotherapy Division developed the Stem Cell Selection system. Our President ASKED me to attend the Orange County Economic Council Meeting, a German businessman told all people attending that meeting that they were doing business with China and focusing on the 2% of Chinese people who are rich enough to buy their products. He emphasized that there were 1.4 billion people in China, therefore 2% of 1.4 billion people number wise is really huge. IN THAT YEAR, I went to Peking University and gave a seminar about medicinal chemistry in pharmaceutical industry. Their chemistry department was so limited, that their building had only one door, not double doors to keep the building warm during winter season. But now Chinese pharmaceutical industries are producing more than 70% of the world active ingredients for almost all drugs. IF CHINA STOPED SELLING ALL THEIR PHARMACEUTICAL ACTIVE INGREDIENTS, EVEN US WILL HAVE DRUG SHORTAGE PROBLEM NOW.

The rise of Chinese manufacturing capabilities made things affordable for common people. Thanks for sharing your story.
USA must be mad to imagine it could stop china progress. Just by population size alone, china has many more geniuses, scientists, researchers, engineers etc, invest more in R&D, has better government support, bigger market and a culture of diligence/discipline entirely lacking in the USA. Plus China has reached a critical mass to power its own rapid progress. Cheers.
