Just wanted to say, I watch this sometimes to get inspired and excited about music. Thanks!

Don't usually comment on these videos...but I was really impressed with your technical ability. The way you sampled your own voice, tuned and layered the volume was genius. Really stoked to see someone with true talent up on youtube. I hope to see more of your videos.

Very nice. Your truly multi talented and creative with your MPC. Well Done

Smooth... Refreshing... Hot!!!! I dont usually reply much, but this deserves one. "The voice" sample turned out really sweet!!! Great Motivation for future producers on old school music making!!!

IDK if i left a comment already but i watch this video all the time, it is very inspiring, your very talented man.

Thanks for checkin' out the video. I record everything analog from Logic into the MPC. But, with some of the other models that have usb ports, you can just drag and drop the file from the Logic project folder directly to the MPC.

Thanks for the response. The guitar was recorded direct; an electric plugged into a firewire mixer.

that was a great touch on the drums, i often find many tracks that lack that drummer feel. great production overall.

I really appreciate the response. I believe you are referring to the snare when you mention "stutter" effect or it may be that there is no snare on the 4th beat of bar 5 in the loop. As far as the snare is concerned, I played ghost notes under various syncopated 16ths at low velocity giving the effect of a live drum loop. The ghost notes are also quantized to different swing percentages which were performed separately. I hope this answers your question. Thanks.

Hey J...thank you for the information on how you got that 'live' sound on this beat. I checked out your channel...you got skills. I'm mainly a guitarist but I've been learning the MPC for nearly a year. I both love and hate that machine but I'm going to stick with it. Seeing people like you creating such cool tracks motivates me to stay keep the MP.

Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it. The hat part is made up of two samples, a closed hat and an open hat. The majority of the part was played on the closed hat sample seen at 1:02. When I play the pad to the right thats the open hat. The reason it sounds the way it does is that the pad is velocity sensitive. It plays various levels/volumes based on how hard you hit the pad. I've been playing drums for 15 years so I just played it how I would actually play the hat.

Thanks for your interest. I record midi or live instruments into the MP, sequence them, then record a live 2-track into Logic audio for mastering.

Thanks. I'm using Logic Express with all of the garageband jam packs.
@JimKulakowski15 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jazzy. Ironically, I am moving back to software and midi. As far as quantization is concerned, what division I quantize to all depends on the groove. In this track, I quantized everything to swing 16ths. However, you see me laying down more than one layer on the snare drum and that is because the second set is quantized to a different swing percentage than the first. Check it out at 1:41.

@KristofferMarc Thanks for watching. At 2:02 I was adding ghost notes to the snare to give a live drummer feel. I just spread the same sample across the pads velocity wise.

@LikeARollingRock Thanks for commenting. At the time, I was recording the loop of each individual instrument into Logic and editing from there. Now, I build everything in Logic and forego the MPC...much easier work flow. I'm working on an album right now, and will be releasing it and some more videos in December. Make sure you check it out. Thanks again.

Nice work. I couldn't follow what you were doing when laying down the drums. How did you get that nice 'stutter' effect on the beat...was it played 'live' on the pads or did you use some trickery. Pray tell.
