And most of the people, sitting there for social obligation, didn't even really care. They were thinking about their shopping lists, the woman next door or their evening beers, and just waited for the service to end so they can leave and go after their business. Thank God history made Bach justice and gave him the fame he deserves but had never experienced in his life, so we can immerse ourself in his art today or any other time we feel like.

@@xbqchm I might disagree with you. There is considerable evidence that at the Zimmerman Coffee Cafe (Bach adored coffee), there was enormous demand for Bach's children to perform there for coffee bar customers. I'm sure they didn't perform sacred music, but there was such enormous demand that Bach's children didn't have enough time to perform, even though the money was probably "good." People also flocked to Bach's organ performances. I don't think he was allowed to charge for those. There is actually considerable evidence that his music was revered when he was alive. We have to look no further than the rhythmical nature of his music. Even the Sinfonia at the beginning of this famous Contata is actually a dance. Look at the musicians. I call this the "Bach dance." Marc, You are so right, in my case I was about 12 years old and ensured I stood close as possible to our school grand piano during Morning School Assembly as our science teacher Mr Morris, a gifted musician would each day play different pieces by Bach and other composers as we filed into the School hall every morning. I remember being particularly captivated by ‘Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring’ and I began to recognise and learn individual pieces. I looked forward to hearing him play, it became an obsession and I could feel the notes of the school’s Bluthner Grand piano resonate around me. This was particularly so when the lid was raised. I’d watch the action hammers and dampers lift and fall as he played. The pupils were never allowed to actually touch the piano, it was regarded as a special item of school equipment and was always kept under a heavy padded cover when not in use. My reverence for instrument was duly recognised by Mr Morris and I became school Monitor with responsibility for removing the cover before School Assemblies and replacing it after the service. In time I was allowed to actually play the piano and learned to play several favourite pieces by Bach and Beethoven strictly under his supervision. It was the first piano I had the pleasure of learning to play and did so for many hours over the years after school had finished. It sounded wonderful in the large school hall. 65 years ago I was given the score of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata by another teacher and still have it in my collection today.
@pianiste10002 жыл бұрын
@@evanofelipe Thank you for your kind reply. As you talk about the Blüthner Grand, it reminds of the fact that I possessed one such piano myself, a 3/4 Grand, a family piano owned by the famous Solvay family, who sold it to me. You evoque the special resonance of your piano at school. Mine was equiped with the ALIQUOT MECHANISM, consisting of a 4 th string suspended freely above the 3 other strings below, resulting in a special colourful resonance, typical for those old Blüthner pianos. Only Blüthner pianos were equiped with this device, which was patented. Maybe your Blüthner was also equiped with it ?

Another ravishing cantata from this marvelous ensemble. I am only now starting to realize what a peerless masterpiece each and every cantata is. Can’t imagine a better performance - the crisp ensemble, Lutz’s spirited organ playing, and most of all the heavenly singing of Claude Eichenberger, a stunning woman with a voice of liquid gold. And that final note of the bass singer is just awesome. Whoever thought it a good idea to put those horrific images as a backdrop should be seriously examined. Very bad taste IMO, and distracting from an otherwise perfect video. And the 16 dislikers, they are not worthy of anything beautiful.

My favorite interpreters of the great J.S. Bach Cantatas....sublime! The first time I heard a Bach Cantata performance by Maestro Lutz & his brilliant singers & instrumentalists was a revelation. It was like hearing that particular Cantata (that I'd heard dozens of times) as if I was hearing for the first time. I only wish I could have heard all of their performances live. Maestro R. Lutz is a genius. My admiration & compliments come from a professional musician involved in opera & sacred music for over 45 years. I wish I could purchase all of the Bach Foundation video & audio performances. I find watching the performances even more a joy than just listening. As I have become a great admirer of the Freiburger Barockorchester, I am also equally admiring of Maestro Lutz & the Bach Foundation. Two brilliant ensembles of incredibly talented musicians. I mention the Freiburger because I have noted many of the wonderful instrumentalists play with both ensembles.
