It's a Cantata, not an opera. The link provided above will no doubt clarify nicely. I'm new to them myself; only about a decade exploring them, still with no expertise, and certainly no German. But I very much like the BWV 8 (also cond. by Suzuki, so with a lead oboe; _not_ the version with a flute). It's also somewhere on KZbin. Heard it once on the radio and was awed; I've been exploring since. But after listening to the BWV 5 here, I'm surprised how good this other early Cantata is. I wonder why such excellent material in his earliest forays into the genre.

@@bbailey17b he composed BWV 5 in 1724, which I believe was his middle period. I don't personally understand the BWV numbering system for his cantatas, though it does not appear to be in chronological order by date of composition. Perhaps someone else can help
