Well. He had 20 children from two marriages. He had anger issues, but, as long as I understand, loved his family deeply. And he loved beer. And he did not only compose those about 1100 works and play, but also taught and conducted choirs and orchestras. And walked around Germany! He was a human in the deepest possible meaning, but also something extraordinary. Either he did not sleep at all, or then he just did not do anything else but these things. His latter wife, Anna Magdalene, helped him, but still... how could he do all that?

Some people explain hist vast work as being sort of a trick, a gimmick or something. But that still doesn't account for the sheer volume and the relationships and the walking and de perfecting of organs and keyboard detuning (tempering) and the depth of his music intellectually. So no, if we count him as one of our own species, then we all suck. Didn't a great musician say that? Brad Mehldau at least quoted it at Rick Beato

Das ist klassische Musik auf höchstem Niveau, zweifellos Spitzenklasse. Gefällt mir. Andererseits: "Gefördert von der .... Bundesregierung". Das ist eine Kunst- und Kulturszene, die wirtschaftlich vom Staat abhängig ist. Wohin das führen kann, das kann man sich zum Beispiel auf der Titelseite der aktuellen Ausgabe des STERN-Magazin (1. Februar 2024) anschauen: Das sind Staatskünstler wie in der DDR, die sich für politische Propaganda mißbrauchen lassen. Wir brauchen eine freie, unabhängige Kunst- und Kulturszene ohne Einmischung des Staates.

Beautiful performance. But at times Alice Lackner's gorgeous mezzo voice gets a bit overshadowed by the violin - a sound mixing issue, I think.
