The only thing wrong with this box set when I got it was the infamous Philips foam insert - it was well on its way to completely disintegrating. I always do clean my records, but these really needed it to get rid of the foam dust. I'll bet the foam seemed like a good idea at the time!

@@ClassicsAndVinyl Oh My gosh that foam insert!! I too have suffered with removing all the remnants. Yes I'm sure they were fine for the first 10-20 years or so. Sometimes they are just barley holding together, enough to remove without much trouble. The ones that are completely gone and wasted, what a hassle indeed. I'm glad you have yours cleaned out. I did not know that was a box set.

Klare und wunderschöne Interpretation dieser perfekt komponierten Suite mit brillanten Tönen aller Blechbläser, milden Tönen aller Holzbläser und seidigen Tönen aller Streicher. Can’t find a better trio of trumpeters than that! Michael Laird went on to play in some of the best period instrument recordings, including Pinnock’s Brandenburgs and Hogwood’s Messiah.

Wonderful recording and superb playback, every detail is present and is the first time that in the Overture, the trumpets are not to loud or to soft, they are present but without making excesive noise. I guess that this superb cartridge have a lot to do with it.

Thanks for your comments. This is a wonderful set of the Suites all round. I think that it's the phono amp I use as well as the cartridge that contributes to the quality of the sound ;o)

@@ClassicsAndVinyl I know I don't have the best turntable but will the sound improve using an external preamp? I have the ATLP-60XUSB and am using the built-in preamp.

@@MARTIN201199 I would think that most external pre-amps would improve on the built-in one in your turntable. Have a look at the links in the video description for Graham Slee products and the free loan scheme for a home demo (if you live in a supported country).
