My teacher, Mr Ghiglia, and I are the same age. This performance reminds me how thoughtful, judiciously tasteful and meditative he is. Bravo, maestro! I hope you and your wife are still alive and well, enjoying fresh Hawaiian pineapple wherever you are!

Sempre bello, e prima maniera, peccato sia un semitono sotto, penso per la registrazione?

Si, tratta da una vecchia audio cassetta.

It seems the Germans are out of gas since the Allemande is so incredibly slow ;-) I don't like this kind of Bach "interpretation" at all. Somehow when playing Bach guitarists tend to "overplay" with all kinds of ornamentations (tasteful or not so tasteful), strange tempo choices and exaggerated phrasing as if to prove something "holy" in the music. To me it all sounds forced and not musical at all. I prefer the John Williams versions of these suites. To each their own I guess.

Only people that don't "feel" the music enough can make this kind of comment. I agree with you on "overplaying" part though but the way Williams plays this is kinda dry with little dynamic range and not enough of that baroque character and tension. Allemande is supposed to be played a little more static too...

Interesting: what is your instrument? Just curious...
