I noticed that lidar point cloud is not displaying (or I cannot see) structures such as walls, light posts, and trees. 16:28 The cement truck looks incredible.

Yup, partially why I still like the old Pacifica UI better. C'est la vie

I really like the difference between inactive and active vehicles in this new UI update. The parked cars are still visible, but far less present.

Storing the point cloud is definitely the way to go. They are going to destroy Tesla FSD.

Do you think it went around that double parked car because it had it's hazard lights on?

There’s an unwritten rule in SF where you can change lanes fairly aggressively if you’re stuck behind a left turner or someone double parked in the right lane like an Uber pickup/dropoff, as long as you quickly switch back after the obstruction. Looks like Waymo doesn’t do this at 6:40 and 14:20 (both on Guerrero) leading to missed light cycles. I point this out as a prime example of how Waymo today is worse than an Uber for a local just trying to get from A to B.

Fair point! If it's not written though, they ain't doing it. legally speaking, at least. Give or take some weird glitches

How is it worse tho waymo doesn't charge you if you sit longer in traffic then expected. You see what you'll pay when you go request your ride it's not like a taxi where if he misses a light cycle the trip gets more expensive.

Are you asking how a longer travel time is worse than a shorter time? Uber and Lyft give you a price upfront as well. Look I like Waymo but after a year of using it in SF the novelty wears off and you’re left with comparative questions like how much more/less does it cost (10% more than Uber over here), how long do I wait for pickup (much longer), and how efficient is the trip to my destination (less than a human driver). I hope it will catch up and surpass Uber in these metrics, but for now it’s merely a cool tech demo to show guests from out of town.

They’re testing freeway driving so that will help to close the gap once it’s available to customers someday
