I've done the northern half of the trail and hope to do the rest soon. Fun watching your videos and getting to know you and your guys..

Thank you for joining the community! The northern end of the NPT is very beautiful, and once you get a chance to complete the rest of the trail, you'll have to let me know your favorite part!

THANKS JOHN for being great company for Woodswalker and for us viewers! You two are about as fit as I was at that age: I had a research and writing desk-type career and regular weekend backpacks went just like your pacing. The last two miles of each day found the family very tired. On longer trips, it took 2-3 days to 'get back in the groove.' After that, I had a bit more stamina...but MY FEET pretty much stayed numb.

I was worried that this trip broke John, but he came back for the finish and was in his glory!

Silver Lake Wilderness is a magical place for sure.

Agreed! There are so many places like Silver Lake Wilderness that humans take for granted but they have this natural power that just can't be described. Those are the places I love to stop and just look around in wonder and amazement.

Not to get too hokey, but it's an incredibly beautiful trail and some sections of it are pretty magical in my opinion. Thanks for watching!

Your videos bring back some great memories. It is nice to watch videos by others hiking at my pace. I mirrored your trip tot Piseco in 2017 except that I met up with another hiker and we crossed over the bridge at the Godfre Road bridge that you walked up on. There is a very nice tent site on the other side that is right on a cascade and we decided to take a "0" there and just enjoy a down day. Just want to point out that you have an error at the bottom of one of the text slides at the end of this video. You state the distance from Silver lake to the post office but I believe that should have been Hamilton Stream to the post office. In 2018 I picked up where this video left off so I am looking forward to continuing the series. Thanks for posting.

Yea - going back through some of the videos I noticed a few "oops" edits - unfortunately, once it's online, it can't be fixed :( I might have to go back out to Godfrey Rd to check out that site - it sounds perfect! Thanks for watching -- I really hope you enjoy the rest of the series!

Oxbow Inn is a great place to stop up there. Just up the road my family used to rent cabins every year at abernacke’s on the opposite side of the lake there’s a kick ass rope swing 😊

Can't wait to see the next video and the adventure it brings. How are you charging your video batteries while on the hike?
@JayMorrisonOutdoors5 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I have an Anker 21,000MaH power brick that charged my phone, Garmin In-Reach, and camera batteries for the trip. The power brick itself only needed a recharge on day 7, so not too bad!

1. Heyyyy Sarah! 2. Mud Pond you say?? Is that near Rock Pond?? :D 3. "Hey bear" seems to be the preferred way to reference a wild bear. Every time I've seen them on vid thus addressed, the outcome was favorable for the human.

Sarah was super cool -- in fact, she was the person we saw on the morning of our Day 2 that let us know we needed to turn back to get off of the red trail around Woods Lake and hit up the NPT at the register near Benson Rd. She also camped with us at Silver Lake, but got in late and we were all pretty beat that night. I joked with John that this should be called Mud Pond Jr. or Mud Pond II since we ate lunch at Mud Pond on Day 1 and it seemed like we walked pretty far ... hehe. All I can say is that "hey bear!" worked for us -- we didn't get eaten ;)
