Same here! I am a Sri Lankan but RD Burman is and will always be my favourite music composer. This song is to me a landmark in Bollywood music history. The use of the bass guitar was without peer and, If I'm correct, led to Ramesh Iyer leave his cooperate job and join RD Burman's team as a guitarist simply after listening to the bass guitar in this song and thinking "right, this is the guy that I wanna join"! First I heard this song in early 2000 when I saw Asha Bhosle's live in concert show where she sang this song with Babul Supriyo, and I was gobsmacked thinking surely this song must have created in the late 90's as it sounded too modern to me even at that time. And it still does! The freshness has never waned even an atom! Unbelievable creation!!

I can't understand that why today's musicians, lyricists and singers can't compose such songs bcoz Indians have several Raagas and many variations in music. I think todays artists are mad after western music and culture. They want everything readymade .
