Talents like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, and Vijay Varma shine, yet Jaane Jaan falls short of its potential. Sujoy and DOP Avik Mukhopadhyay, known for Sardar Udham, brilliantly craft an atmospheric mood with rolling fog and stylized lighting. While close-up shots of the leads and Anirban Sengupta's suspenseful sound design stand out, the script and character depth lag behind.

Sujoy Ghosh fantastic job , without boring and dragging, but my opinion, climax should have been different, like Kareena charector got convinced by teacher that they will confuse the police during confession so that the case closes unsolved but at the end teacher takes all the blame on him and goes to jail , with this Kareena gets shocked and confronts teacher only to find how truly he loves her . As sacrifice is the new trend in cinema after carona....

Another instance where book is much better than the movie. They merged 3 characters into 1 Vijay Verma, there goes half the fun, the jealousy, the passion of the professor for the female lead. Also in true dramatic hindi style they gave kinda happy ending unlike the book and defeats the whole purpose of Vijay Verma being professors childhood friend and this in turn makes the climax of the film weaker. Reading the book is much better to delve deep into the character psyche. Also there is a japanese, korean and a chinese movie based on the same book

According to me this review is half-baked and half-hearted. Firstly there isn’t any mention of the Editing chops brought to the table, which contributed to a crisp storytelling. Editing is a crucial aspect of film-making which enhances the thrill & drama of the work. This movie has taken this element to a very superior level and not acknowledging it is such an injustice. Secondly, the Action element of the film is completely ignored. We cannot not agree that the Action sequences were immensely novel & refreshing. Whether it’s the calculated cop fights or the calming Japanese Jujitsu, they are ingrained into the narrative in a very intelligent fashion, in a way that they effortlessly forward the flow of the story and not clutter it in mindless manners(as is done in many mainstream Hindi projects). Moreover, the juxtaposition of Present, Past & Future scenes is deliberately done to heighten the thrill and accelerate our pulse, which in fact is a rare directorial feat. It is precisely at this point that we can actually say that Jaane Jaan’s direction transcends mediocrity and becomes truly avant garde. Also the content and the intent of the film are not thoroughly evaluated in this review. The film, at many instances, doles out pathbreaking academic perspectives in a very matter-of-fact manner, like the reference to changing our attitude towards orthodox syllabi instead of complacently clinging to them like koalas; like placing a laser-like focus on the problem at hand and not on overriding the opponent; like everyday existence can be tackled with simple existential philosophies, etc. A teacher, who happens to be the protagonist of the film, can absolutely furnish this wisdom to the world and he totally does it right. What about the psychological dimension of the characters?? Why that hasn’t been explored in this review? I don’t think Vijay Verma’s character was monotoned, ‘coz he plays the tough, the sharp, the vulnerable, the confused, the confident, the lustful, the shrewd, all of this in one go. Not to mention the in-depth exploration of Jaideep Ahlawat’s aka Teacher’s aka the protagonist’s psyche!! We have hardly hardly come across such complex Bollywood heroes, who peel a layer every fifteen minute and then wear it back in the next five. He is a victim of severe inferiority complex but he is also an epitome of otherworldly fortitude. He can cry like a toddler behind his doors and he can also stretch like a yogi in the middle of the streets. He is so much that he becomes larger than the film and the director just couldn’t contain him in a bottle of 2hr19min. Despite all this, not enough credit, not enough appreciation is extended towards the beyond excellence acting skills of Jaideep Ahlawat. As far as the use(obsession of Sujoy Ghosh with old numbers) of old Hindi song Jaane Jaan is concerned, I don’t think that deserves to be criticized so much so that other solid aspects of the film get brushed under the carpet. No film is perfect, we all know that. But such a strive towards raising the bar of film-making in India deserves much more appreciation.

Exactly but since Naren knows Karan is very sharp and would never stop, also probably Naren feels the need to save Maya since she saved her in a way and he reconciled with his first love maths and would get a lot of time to solve the problem which takes 15 yrs. So I think Naren plans the solution which he gives to Karan like the birds on the trees😅. He was sure to take the blame when he first offered help to Maya, as he was portraying subtly in front of Karan when he complimented him for his looks and hair, and taking a printout of hair treatment etc so leaving all those clues which later add up in Karan's mind when he went to confess.

To stop him from finding the real body, Jaideep planted a fake body and a fake story. The real body lay safely, wherever it was. Jaideep's plan protected her love Kareena and he reunited with his first love Mathematics, because the real world(his school) didn't respect his passion .

As someone from Kalimpong, I'd like to point out some things that I felt could've been better. While the movie says Kalimpong but the cop Vijay arrives on a toy train which is one of the main tourist attraction of Darjeeling and not Kalimpong. And when he arrives the Nepali cop welcomes him saying Welcome to Kalimpong or something like that. The school they talk about Mount Hermon, that's not a school in Kalimpong, it's a school in Darjeeling. They could've used a school name from Kalimpong or come up with a fictional name. Again, when the teacher is talking to the student, they speak in Hindi, in English medium ICSE schools there, everybody talks in English atleast in the school compounds. These are things which a Director should've kept in mind. Tiny details are so tiny. Other than that, I loved the movie.

It’s actually very interesting you say that. Because Drishyam ( Hindi ) was a remake of Drishyam ( Malayalam ) and Drishyam (M) was a remake/adaptation/ drew inspiration from the novel, the Devotion of Suspect X, but obviously did so unofficially. Jaane Jaan is the official adaptation of Devotion of Suspect X. Hence if one must accuse somebody of repackaging a story then it must be Jithu Joseph who wrote the very first Malayalam Drishyam.
