This song is a classic but timeless, it could be released 2015 and win road march. I miss all of the old soca and calypso too. The problem is today all of the new soca stars are trying to reach an "international" market instead of just focusing on what the West Indian community likes. The funny thing is my dad use to complain about soca in the late 90s and say it was rubbish, he said Super Blue is the one who originated modern day soca with all of his "jump up" music in the early 90s. Things evolve and change in life so I guess we shouldn't expect things to stay the same.

+unf2008 You're right. The authenticity and essence are done wid Soca music. "Outsiders" of cultural music gravitate towards the music for its purity and authenticity. Too much Ragga Techno BS calling it Soca music

+unf2008 I recently took an interview with a Trini artists "Jillionaire" and he said something that is a little out of context but fits nicely here. " I think that anybody that's going to complain about what the youth are doing are old and disconnected and should be talking about what the youth are doing." Fact is there is a lot of soca that is out there that is not machine generated, like music from Farmer Nappy, Kes (sometimes), and Olatunji. I'm an American living in Norway and I can find it I'm sure you can. The fact is, soca music was conceived by a group of artists that were consuming and internalizing global music. In an interview I took with Pelham Goddard, he said soca was created by incorporating elements from disco, R&B, funk and soul. so of course a dance music, soca, is going to incorporate elements from other global dance musics like EDM, dancehall, and trap.

Jedi Master Syknys I believe that soca influence is heavy in the EDM scene now. Go listen to a set from Major Lazer, Diplo or Skrillex. I have heard djs playing bunji and kes Before Beyoncé concerts. Soca is bigger than people think. We may not have a true international star but the influence is definite

+Surry Maharaj well... first you can thank Jamaican dancehall culture, not Machel, for the "machine generated shit" but really Machel wasn't the first to do it. Super Blue was. But I really don't understand why anyone would be cynical towards artists for changing their sound. If you haven't heard about it there is a phenomenon that occurs in business called the law of supply and demand. This means that a product, in this case the music, would not be profitable and would therefore not be put out on the market unless there was a demand for it. This means the that your sarcastic gratitude towards Machel Montano is highly misdirected. You really should be chastising the Trini public for buying into the "machine generated shit". but I recently took an interview with a Trini artists "Jillionaire" and he said something that is a little out of context but fits nicely here. " I think that anybody that's going to complain about what the youth are doing are old and disconnected and shouldn't be talking about what the youth are doing." Fact is there is a lot of soca that is out there that is not machine generated like the music Farmer Nappy, Kes (sometimes), and Olatunji and in fact the majority of Machel's new album Monk Evolution is not machine generated you just need to find it instead of wining about it what you don't like on a youtube video thread.
