Amazing discussion. Two of the very best of contemporary writers. Completely different writing styles and personalities. I think it is fair to generalize that Javed saheb exudes passion and Gulzar saheb calmness. I am a huge admirer of Gulzar saheb. It is his imagination with which I am so astonished. Many years ago, I listened famous song "chup chup kay chori say chori" for the first time and I knew it was the poetry of Gulzar saheb. I confirmed it later. The words, the sequence, the simplicity and most of all the imagination_ Gulzar the genius.

Great to see them together...They are amazing poets. In Telugu, Check out Sirivennela Sitarama Sastry's songs. Very indian, beautiful, deep and soul touching. I would rate him on par with these legends and slightly more because of the philosophical angle he brings in. One reason why I am happy that a telugu song , Naatu Naatu has won Golden globes is that, atleast few non telugu Indians would now explore telugu songs and discover Sirivennela s songs. He is easily a Tagore of South India. ❤️

He's a great poet indeed.....Thanks for sharing it....I'm not a Telugu speaker & my understanding of Telugu literature is through the painstakingly done wonderful translations published by National Book Trust & Sahitya Academy....But still with my limited Knowledge I would say that if the title Tagore of Telugu literature has to be bestowed upon somebody then it should either be on Gurajada Apparao or on Viswanatha Satyanarayana....They were true legends!!

@Kuldeep Sarma Hi Kuldeep, sorry for the late response. Thanks for taking interest in Telugu literature, like every other language, great literature brings solace to heart and mind. Yes I agree Gurajada garu and Viswanatha Satyanarayana garu are amazing and I am not worth my caliber to comment on their poetic prowess. Among all the contributions Tagore gave to Bengal and India, the biggest in my view is the way he brought the Indian philosophy to common people with simple, hummable words and lyrics. In the world which is becoming a movie centric, especially true in Telugu states, Sirivennela used the space to fullest advantage. 1. His songs are very positive, enriched with life. Even item numbers turn into philosophical numbers for youth to contain and construct their energy in a proper way( eg: musugu veyoddu from a movie Khadgam). 2. Bringing in the depth of Indian Philosophy in songs(chalo re chalo re chal from Jalsa ). Even the people who doesn't have high opinion on Indian value system like RGV also gave emotional tributes when he passed away.. Anyways those are the similarities between Tagore and Sirivennela. But yeah who am I to judge the other greats you mentioned. @Kuldeep Sharma
