this movie will be like an alien for westerners because it's rooted in eastern culture of a guy being shy towards the girl he likes so much and can't express himself in talking to her. this movie conveys everything without much talking and that's a great thing of this movie.

well it's cultural differences. The same way Indian audience here wants Jaby to marry Achara since ages but they are just into some other world. We can't really understand each others' countries' culture and how people maintain relationships but yes have to understand that expressing love is not the same in every other country. It's more pure here in India I believe

'96 most simple yet most beautiful movie ever, making a movie like this which doesn't have much dialogues, a simple story, no fany location or fight sequence, it's difficult and depends heavily on the actors. Lucky for everyone, it had two of the India's finest actors as the lead, Vijay Setupati and Trisha Krishnan. This is Vijay's best perfomance of his career.

This is the story of every Indian introvert man 😂 me included. Men feel true love and their first love is the only love. It's the purest form of love with no sexual connotation underlying it. But then reality hits you, and you lose that love and if life gets harder, you lose faith and trust, making you physically incapable of feeling love again. Men should have control of their emotions, that includes love. Otherwise they can't be functional and competent like this guy in the movie. On the other hand, women should pursuit the hardest to feel love for the man, because evolutionarily women are risk averse and find it hard to trust a man, let alone love him.

No matter how many times I watch this movie, I will cry at some point.😂 I loved Vijay Sethupathi after this movie and he is my fav actor from Tamil industry. The younger version of Jaanu was so cute and her acting was top notch compared to the acting of the younger version of Ram. All I wanna see is the thumbnail to the second part😂

It was common in those days to have besties who would act and be called upon as sisters and brothers. Also in those days there was absolutely no way of communication between each other during the summer break the only mode of communication we used to have was the School or the TUTION centre. Many of us have faced this exact experiance where some one close to us just disappeared without a trace due to transfer during the summer break. Never to be heard or seen again.

I always hate the fact that people say that Ram doesn't speak totally ignoring the fact that he was always a shy, introverted and reserved kinda guy. There's nothing wrong in that. I get it why women would want him to speak up since it is always expected for men to make the move and we have basically been hard-wired that men have to play the chasing game but its not like Ram didn't try once he got to her college. There are also a lot of other things like being in a small town really doesn't allow you to go away with your teenage crush as would happen in other cultures or metro cities. So even if the ice would have broken between them, they would still have faced the regular challenges a lot of 90's Indian kids faced. Throughout the movie you can see that Ram has a totally different personality in-front of Janu, he just loses it in front of her while being adorable and innocent. Its basically fight or flight mode for him whenever Janu confronts him. That still doesn't change the fact that he loves her. Think of him as Chandler in front of Monica without the sarcasm - Chandler himself admitted to being nervous around women. Above all, I don't understand this obsession of men making the first move always. If two people love each other, does it even matter if in the end they get to be together? People want him to make the move and that's fine but they fail to realize that he cannot just shed away his innate personality just like that in order to make a move that too in front of the girl he loves with all his heart.

She is not his sister...in India we often make such relationships like brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandpa, grandma with people we know. Not only that according to the age of the person we even address strangers by such relations and not by Mr or miss so and so like in western countries.😊

Ok i watched the full reaction of you guys and i can definitely understand how frustrating this movie can be for you guys, especially Steph Sabraw was not havin it🤣. I'd say its because this movie only connects with audiences who was born in 90s and grew up in Indian conservative society and schooling. This movie and the characters can be easily seen as people with "mental health issues" and the main character may look like he is a "stalker". i was laughing when Steph was like "why isn't he talkinnnn......" the frustration was reachin the max with her 😂. I can totally see why. A important thing, the girl who calls "Ram" as "Brother" is actually not his blood sister, as far i know kids in school usually if they feel a sibling bond with anyone they usually call them "bro" or "sis", even own classmates and its pretty common in here and even cousins call each other "brother" and "sister" so subtitles in movies dont always mean blood siblings.

You oly think that you want to get loved like you expect. Good for you girls 🤙🏻 Jaanu is an angel ❣️ and angels don't judge based on how awkward the man's actions are, instead they oly cares about how much he loves her to the max in his own way.

One time in 6th grade i talked to a girl in my class, we were having fun. My teacher saw us and he beat me with a bamboo stick on my finger knuckles. I was taken to the class and was ass whooped and I was made to kneel at the entrance of the school so at end of day while leaving school everyone can see me kneeling. I can say dozens of such scenarios in my childhood. As i grew up, I totally stopped talking to girls. Boys and girls are not allowed to mingle in most (over 70-80%) schools in India. Infact it is the selling point for the school management. They sell the school to the fathers of girls that - if you admit your daughter into our school, no boys will be allowed to talk, so that falling in love and such things won't happen.
