I am a Meitei, from Northeast India, our language is called "Meiteilon" and we have similar words, sentences and most of the time it all depends not just on the accent but also on the voice tone and high/low pitch and that gives you completely different meaning. And therefore, I totally agree with you on that, because my ears are trained to that although I do not understand Thai. I find similarities in the speech pattern of Meiteilon, Burmese and Thai whenever I hear people speak.
