That's why I'd much rather have Achara or Andrew with Steph. Jaby has missed so many iconic moments of Indian cinema. He prolly thinks when we ask him to 'react' we want him to do a running commentary of everything that pops up in his head. That's not what reaction means tbh.

@purbated

Jaby, she knew because she saw the book 'Catch-22' that he was reading in Corsica which had the stamp of this place named "Social." So she realized that he had borrowed it from this place. That is why when she starts visiting this place, she starts reading that book only. Also, if you go through the synopsis of that novel, or even the meaning of the word Catch-22 itself, you will see that it represents Ved's situation in life. The most mindblowing thing about this movie is its use of metaphors, imageries and symbolism. Even their names represent their characters. The name Ved, like Tara says, "Like Rig Ved?", he is named after a book (Religious Hindu texts) because he comes from the world of stories, whereas she is Tara (Star, Lodestar: "a person or thing that serves as an inspiration or guide") who guides him on his journey to find his true self.

Here goes nothing. One of the reasons why this movie did not work out to its real potential was because people watched this movie with a preconceived notion that it was a love story. And in a way, it started off just like that which kind of set that expectation to be true. But it was not. This was a movie about psychological disorders and how it starts, progresses and how it is a spectrum and we all kind of have gone through some degrees of it. The depiction started with Deepika, what they showed in the song after she comes back from Corsica are classic signs of clinical depression. Getting stuck in something that you just can't move on from, overeating, lack of enthusiasm, a melancholic feeling all the time - just what depression does to you. Then we see a case of a more obvious kind of psychological disorder with Ved. He most likely is suffering from some sort of bipolar disorder. We see glimpses of how it might have stemmed from his past experiences. We see how he has become submissive in order to protect himself but there are outbursts from time to time. And if you notice, most of these issues arise when you are unable to express your emotions. Ved couldn't express his frustration with the career line he chose, Tara couldn't express her love/liking to Ved early on. But towards the end, when they start to freely express their emotions, insecurities, they let the wall of emotions down is when the healing process begins. The world might conceive this as a Tamasha (a show) but what you will be truly doing is unleashing the heavy pressure you have put on their tiny brain. This is a masterpiece by Imtiaz Ali, and when you see the movie from the beginning considering it to be a movie about how our brain misfires from time to time, I can guarantee you will absolutely love it!

Nah......I agree Achara would have been perfect. She doesn't walk into movies with a set of pre-conceived notions like most of the other reactors do. She lets the movie and the story grow on her organically and hence is able to predict outcomes, story arcs, character traits logically regardless of the cultural and lifestyle differences. Achara is OG ❤❤

She is not being crazy, Jaby; she is just in love. She can see that he is struggling and he needs somebody to help him, and when you are in love, you don't leave your person when they are struggling, you help them overcome the struggle. She knows who he really is, this however scares him because he has never been seen so he is just trying to push her away. What he is doing is of course unfair to Tara but it is also his way of checking if she is just like everyone else who fail to understand him, and her holding on to him is her way of saying "I am here, I understand. It's okay." And to have all these conversations without using words is what the director wanted, and both of them have done excellent jobs. I think there are only some people who truly understand Imtiaz Ali's movies completely, but I love that he doesn't simply scenes, movies or plots for his audience, and instead has faith that some people if not all of them will understand his movies without him having to compromise with his vision.

But he is being abusive to her at the same time. You can tell the other person what's the matter without raising your voice like that. Those scenes took me back to my childhood trauma when my dad used to yell at everyone. If I was at Tara's place, I'd have never seen him again after he raised his voice the first time.

@purbated
@purbated Жыл бұрын
@@EsoteriaHealing You see, that is a wrong way of seeing it. It is just a representation of how people may react when they are put into certain situations. It is not meant to show you what's right and what's wrong. It is meant to show you how things may happen in a situation like this. Does not mean that the relationship was taken to a place where toxicity was being romanticized. She realized she had hurt him, she tried to make things better, apologized to him, but when he left eventually, she left as well. She knew that she had to stop and she did. Anything that is being represented on screen does not mean that they are trying to tell you this is what's right. Many people I see these days just use the word "romanticizing [something negative]" whenever it is being shown in a movie or show. It's a very wrong way of looking at stories and characters. They are not romanticizing or trying to normalize something that is not okay. They are just showing you how things can be.
@purbated

Very well said. But it is also a really amazing thing the ending of this sequence where he is hiding, and she finds him, sits on the ground, and then he thinks for a while and leaves, that was not Imtiaz Ali's creation. He didn't know how to end that scene, so he asked Ranbir and Deepika, and they came up with it. A fun fact for those who didn't know. But I think it really shows how they understand his way of storytelling and his charcters so well. They are the Holy Trinity I will never get over.

He is not mental or breaking down. It's the indian society that here if u are working hard in compnies and if u have 9-5 job then u are successful. Mostly common people don't take play and acting as a career here so much. And then we loose ourselves. But Tara met the free Ved first and then this ved who is just a Robot. This is the story of this movie that Find someone who can bring ur Real personality out.

I believe, this is one of the core reasons of us remaining undeveloped for so many decades..and ongoing. We have tended to see life in terms of materialism and not inner satisfaction or life path. And the reason we have become ignorant about life path is because we have become increasingly ignorant about ethics, values and ideals. These things are the anchors in our life, helping us to choose the direction in uncertain situations. When you don't bother about those, you start getting afraid of choosing a life of passion, because in a life of passion, there are lots of uncertain situation, and u have to traverse through those with the help of ur values. When a whole society bothers less about human values, that society wants more predictability than exploration. So it adapts a stagnant lifestyle. It prefers 9-5 rather than experimental. And it prefers generatong IT jobs rather than more R&D

She's not being crazy😭 omg. Her behaviour is exactly what people with mental illnesses sometimes need. Ofcourse it can very wrong if Ved's character was in any way negative but most people do get healed by sincere help. I remember my sister had depression and would get violent and sleep on the floor because she couldn't control her own mind and body. I would lay next to her on the floor the entire night too, just to assure that even if she thinks she's alone, out of her mind I'm actually right beside her. My sister's so much better now. I get why many people didn't understand this movie in the beginning because we as an audience just take the beginning at a glance and assume it's gonna be a love story....but Tamasha is more than that. I still hope you both enjoy it though :) ❤

An honest piece of criticism Jaby. We really need you to start paying more attention and do more homework about Hindi films. After years of earning subscribers through the Indian audience, the least we deserve is you being more informed. I have no idea about spanish films but if i did it as regularly as you for 10 years, i would be speaking fluent spanish and understanding the films deeper. Thats the commitment one needs to put in. Just putting a film in three parts is not the only strategy. Please learn Hindi, watch movies and read up stuff off screen enough that when a Steph (Newer reactor) comes in, you are able to guide her. You are clueless even after all this time. Unfair to the audience you are earning through.

Your comment just goes to show you don't know much about learning languages. I'm French, did a Bachelor in English, have learnt various languages, started watching Hindi movies in 2010, have seen about 450 Hindi films, and I absolutely do NOT speak Hindi fluently even though languages are my thing, that's not how languages work. The basic Hindi I know I learnt from actual language lessons, and I haven't had the opportunity to devote as much time to such lessons as I wanted. Just watching even 100s of movies in a language will only give you barely a few words, and an ear to facilitate understanding if you go into actual lessons. That's all. I've watched about 80 Telugu movies, I only know 2 dozens words tops from that. Actual learning takes a lot of time that Jaby probably doesn't have. And some people are not good at languages.
@PsycheShow-j4z
@PsycheShow-j4z Жыл бұрын
@@AriaIsara HI, I totally get your point. I shouldn't have said 'fluent' but please go beyond that. What I'm trying to get at is if hindi films are literally a huge part of your work, going the extra mile is needed. You cannot be looking and sounding clueless after all these years. We love jaby and that's why we are here but his understanding has not matured. What was cute initially with his struggles of understanding is now not fair to the audience. Again, i take back my expectation of fluency but growth is all i ask for.

Hey you don't have to like this movie, but I just wanted to give my take on why it is loved. Firstly, it's a well made movie with good photography, camera work, music and performances. Secondly, the character of Ved and his life experience is very close to many Indians, wherein we are told to do something we don't like and thus end up living a meaningless and boring life. Finally, I feel the relationship dynamic explored was realistic as well. When you actually love someone, you might take the blame for their downfall. Is this the right thing to do? Maybe not, but we are flawed creatures and we don't always act like we should.

First of all imagine leading someone on for so long. Take them on multiple dates, kissing them and finally when he proposes her, she rejects him. She could have easily told him earlier she was not interested but after leading him on for so long, she rejects him and in fact not only that but insults him calling him “mediocre”. She psychologically damaged him, how do you expect him to not react. Women can scream and react all they want but when a man does it, its suddenly abusive

This movie has a lot going on.. Almost all the people are living like this. They gave up their true self and bind them in a schedule.. because life is a race.. we run, retire and die. Ved was kid with a lot of dreams.. then over the years, to "succeed" in life he changed himself into this person, a robot with a heart(That is shown in the first scene). He would go away every year and be the real himself.. Somehow, Tara caught on the whole situation and these outburst he was having because he had convinced himself to live like this and Tara was bringing out his true self. Hence, the sudden outbursts. But, in real life, every one is a Ved, without their Tara. We give up our true spirits when we grow up, we become this whole other person.. who is just breathing and will stop doing that eventually. It is sad, isnt it. Just, we dont have the "happy endings".

It takes a lot of love and patience from someone who is willing to go the distance for you. When a man is breaking down it's scary, but a woman who literally thinks she is possessed (as long as she is hot) will not be taken seriously. instead they will constantly talk about how attractive she is instead of complementing her performance. The entire time I thought, Tara isn't scared of Ved so why are you?
