Here are some of the references: India split into India and Pakistan soon after Independence hence the other guy there. The speech in the middle was mocking at ourselves since those were some of the things that eventually did go onto happen, putting students in jail, shooting own civilians etc...And the speech itself is a direct reference to Tryst with Destiny, a famous speech by Jawaharlal Nehru, our first prime minister soon after Independence. Shooting in the garden with no exits was a reference to an incident called Jalianwala Bhag massacre where more than 1000 peaceful protesters were shot inside a garden which had only one exit by the British under General Dyer's orders. And when he says, Again with the Salt. It was one of the civil disobedience movements started by Gandhi called salt satyagraha. We were essentially not allowed to make salt, and the British had monopolized it. So Gandhi and many others had marched to a place called Dandi and had made salt there as a protest.

Well, you clearly haven't been paying attention since childhood then. The British did not wage a war to acquire the Kohinoor, so it is definitely not an item of loot. The last Maharajah of Punjab, Duleep Singh, was made to forcefully "gift" the diamond to Queen Victoria. The aforesaid Maharajah happened to be a grand old man of eleven years at the time, and was a ward of an English vicar who approved all his decisions. If forcing a child to give up his most treasured possession under duress is not theft - or 'nicking' as the Brits themselves say - then I don't know what is.

when Britain says , "call me Raj" ... it's actually making two points... First, Raj is a Hindi word which means rule, kingdom, empire. Thus, it was taken into the British dictionary to imply the British Empire. They called themselves British Raj in India. Second, Raj is a very popular Indian name for boys. And SRK in most of his films have played the role of a romantic lover boy with the name Raj and in all such films it's exactly the way he used to introduce himself to his love interest. Also, all of his romantic films are shot in western countries. Implying the lust of Britain for India and the love hate relationship where we hate them for oppressing us and on the other hand love Cricket, Shakespare, parliamentary system of politics which are all taken from British culture. I am not sure, if this is exactly what the script writer was thinking but that's my interpretation.

For those who didn't get the Britain's "Call me...Raj." In India the British Rule was called British Raj, Rule literally translating to "Raj". And the pun is that there is a very famous and loved Bollywood movie that had the male lead called "Raj" and he had a famous dialogue that goes "Raj, you must've heard my name". And that's the pun with British "Raj" and the "Raj" from the movie. Hope that helps.

Omg watching this after becoming a history student just hurts my brain 😭 Indians didn't even commit sati. The dominant religion of Hindustan (hinduism) did NOT agree upon oppression of people of different sexualities and genders. Unified Indian nationalism only came into existence in response to British Imperial rule, its the reason there's so much internal division within India to this day, you arent meant to be one country. And your entire military structure, your internal bureaucracy etc is all a direct result of the colonial administration, it's all modelled in the European systems of government. Your military structure remains basically unchanged from how it was administered under the British, except obviously Indian officers are command now instead of British ones. Its plain as day. And You can keep saying you are the 4th strongest country in the world but you have yet to prove it beyond Pakistan which as I said you've only ever won because of huge numerical advantage. China is rich beyond anything India is capable of.

lucy william are u crazy or what.Its funny what are you talking about.you dont know a damn about india and you dont have a right to talk too.There were many kingdoms after the british left too.I think you need to know the proper history.who made all the kings to give away their weapons and kingdoms after the british left and made india into a unified country.know before you speak anything you like. According to states reorganization act in 1956,evey kingdom whether big or small will be taken in to the custody of government by force(if needed(military action)).Dr sadar vallabhbhai patel has played a major role to become a unified country.

The British plundered and divided the Indian Civilization. They taught us our own history in a manner that divided and confused us, which in turn reinforced their hold on the Indian Subcontinent. In my opinion, the British were the cleverest politicians of the latter half of the last millennium. They started manufacturing in India during the rule of Emperor Jahaangir by getting permits for setting up hubs here. They kept their nefarious designs on hold until the next 100-odd years, because the powerful Mughals were in power in Delhi. So they waited through Jahaangir, Shaah Jahaan and the badass Aurangzeb. They waited because they knew they stood no chance against the mighty Mughals at the peak of their power. The Mughal empire started declining post Aurangzeb's rule, and the clever British quickly latched on to this opportunity. Several local chief ministers from areas as north-west as the Hindu Kush in Afghanistan, as north-east as Assam in India and as south as Tamil Nadu in India smelled a chance and revolted against weaker Mughal ruler, after Aurangzeb's death. The British pounced upon this fracturing in the Indian society and pitted Indians against Indians. In 50 years following Aurangzeb's death, the British had established itself as a clever and powerful force in the Indian Subcontinent, winning chunks of territories through their divide and rule policy.
