Documentary about the life and career of comic Jack Benny, narrated by Tom Smothers. Included are clips fro his television shows,guest appearances on others' shows, clips from his movies and sound clips from his radio appearances. Friends, fans and colleagues are interviewed, including such stars as Johnny Carson, Ann Margret, , Dinah Shore, his daughter Joan Benny, Carol Burnett, Frederick De Cordova, Irving Fein, and interviews with Benny himself, from various talk shows.

There are no words to adequately describe Jack Benny. I remember when he walked on the stage at the London Palladium and just stood there for about 2 minutes…with that look…but we were in stitches laughing….He didn’t have to say a word…Wonderful man…

This was absolutely wonderful! Benny's comedy has influenced and inspired me so much over the last year. I'm determined to find as much of his material as I possibly can because I've always had a comedic style that is very much like his but did not know how to really build on it and refine it and I have learned so much from watching and listening to these shows. I want to make people laugh like he did

On Jack Benny’s Radio Show, besides Jack, Phil Harris, Eddie “Rochester” Anderson and Dennis Day were my favorites. Then on his tv shows, Eddie “Rochester” Anderson and Dennis Day were my favorites. They all made his shows even better, they added to the humor. I always enjoyed “Rochester’s” snappy comments and comebacks.

Eddie Anderson was the best loved, highest paid African American entertainer during the whole decade of the 1940s. As a comedy duo, Jack Benny and Anderson (in my opinion) rivaled Abbott and Costello and Martin and Lewis and any other comedic team I can think of. That said, thanks for your comment!

"For a lousy million dollars" Rochester and Mel Blanc :) Love the end bit. You know they're right.... watching the Merv Griffin clip, you do start laughing in the silence. It think that Kelsey Grammar in Frasier did a wonderful job with a character in the same vein. Shame no mention of the friendship with Fred Allen. Thank you for posting.

It's a huge disappointment that there is no mention whatsoever - at least, in the first half of this video - of Jack's longtime foil and friend Frank Nelson. That man provided Jack with some of his biggest-ever laughs...and if you don't believe me, just ask Drear Pooson!

I wonder where all the shows that appear in this documentary are now. It's clear to see that the excerpts from the Steve Allen show and Merv Griffin etc are taken from a full length recording, however, it appears that none of them are available online.
