I was 11 in 1990 glad now that I can look back and remember it. Even though at the time I couldn’t watch the games the tension was too much. But the absolute joy when the results went our way. Unbelievable feeling. What a time. Hopefully some day those days can be replicated. The country was never so united as it was in the summer of 1990.

I was 8 years old watching the game of eire England in Africa in 88 we were maybe 50 people supporting Ireland and none of us could show you on the map the Irish republic And for some reason the man caught the eyes of most people that evening. The reason ? I don't really know, but you could see he was special.

He came at a time when we all woke up in the morning to the news of another senseless murder in the north. The message we sent by appointing an Englishman as the manager of our team was on thing, the things he did with this team will be hard to beat. He was a World Cup winner for England and was proud of that, I think he was just as proud about what he did for Ireland and will be forever Irish in all the hearts of Irish men and women who knew his name

Men like him and Bobby Robson were such nice humble men, something that is lost in modern football sadly. RIP to big Jack, me and my Irish dad living in England had such great times watching the Republic and there adventures under jack. My dad sadly passed last year, and though more of a rugby fan, he loved it when jack was in charge of Ireland.

Jackie touched me deeply, his words, his deeds. when in NI, as a young student from HK, I watched his final game and the game in Lisbon on telly, he stood in the rain frustrated puzzled, nodding. I cried and felt sorry for him. 25 yrs on, looking back, the joys overcome, 90, 94, Jack and his lads were brilliant.

My mum is from Ireland,my mum’s family are from Ireland as well, they told me about good stories, how Jack played, how he wanted to achieve in the game,I was so looking forward to meet him for real, I’ve never ever met him,I’m sure you all you would like to meet Jack,I watched a documentary this year on KZbin,I loved the stories,it Fascinated not just for me, but for us all as fans. When we play our first ever competition for the international games, we’ll make Jack proud. Can I say I’d like to say thank you to Jack for all the memories, this football will be down in the history. Thanks a million mum and my family too, I’ll forget, the way you taught me,the way you told me.Gone, but not forgotten. R.I.P Jack!🇮🇪☘️
