Little known fact for most visitors to Jack Daniel's is that the county that it is located, Moore County is a "dry county." No alcohol can be sold there. There was a loophole created to allow the distillery to sale collectible bottles of the whiskey, but it must be sealed and bagged.

That's how it was about 15 years ago when I toured. But she had a frozen lemonade drink and was wondering if the laws had changed to allow for drinking while touring. Might have been a nonalcoholic drink. I'm from middle TN so was curious

While its true that Moore County is dry, the reason is the law states that you had to have at least five thousand votes in favor of being wet. Moore County did not have a population of five thousand people when the vote was taken.

That's not true. You can buy beer and wine, and if you go on the square, there is a bar. I live 9 miles from Lynchburg in Moore County. That's tourist hype.

Haha. In much of Louisiana you can buy frozen daiquiris from a drive through- with a piece of tape over the straw hole. That is a good enough seal for us. Pull your straw out and reseal the tape and it’s not open container.

Awwww you caught a lightning bug. When we were kids my mother would give us kids a mason jar to catch lightning bugs. Mom would punch holes in the metal lid so they could breathe and we'd put a few blades of grass in so could crawl around inside jar. We'd put the jar with lighting bugs by our bed so it was like a natural night light. When we woke up we'd release them outside. I always thought my mom was pretty cool. ❤

Lived in Lynchburg from around 1973 to 1996 and still live close by. A tradition was that the kindergarten class would always tour the distillery. I still have a photo of my my whole class in front of the jack daniels statue which was a different one then in 1977. Had an uncle that was a tour guide there for many years.

Thank you Marie for your honesty and kindness to us, sometimes foolish Americans. I am 68 and lived 10 years of my first 15 years in other countries. I lived in the Paris area for 4 years as a middle school kid. I loved France and would love to go back. I don't remember how I found your channel but I think it was your reacting to music. I liked your young perspective on older music (Led Zepplin, etc.) but was really taken with your reaction to the Normandy cemeteries, especially the American one and the amount of graves there. Your appreciation of their sacrifice for France and Europe touched me deeply. If you are an example of who will be taking over the next generations of human beings, I have hope for the future. Thank you for your perspective and being such a lovely person. - Tom from Colorado

Glad to see you enjoyed another delightful day in my state. When I went to the Jack tour a few years ago, they were trying to get the law changed that prohibited them from doing "tastings". The law in question banned the sale of alcohol in the county - where the city of Lynchburg is located. Looks like they got the law changed.

Those barrels after being used for whiskey are sent to a soy sauce crafter in upstate New York, they call it bluegrass soy sauce. Some barrels are sent to various furniture shops or decor shops to be sold as is as decorative pieces for a house. They look actually very nice and can be easily made into chairs and whatever.

@@ct6852 depends on the exact whiskey. Could be a year to 100 years. But a barrel can only be reused once before it has to be chopped up or made into something.

@@ct6852 I didn't know it could only be re-used once. I thought whiskey makers used them multiple times. I do know that Bourbon, by definition, must be in new charred casks. So a Bourbon cask is one time use (one time use to make bourbon, can be reused elsewhere)

Hey Marie 😃 🥃 🌄 " Whiskey making is an act of cooperation between the blessings of nature and the wisdom of man " Masataka Taketsuru Wow! You saw that many Mustangs in a day , that's fire. Lynchburg looked charming & serene , perfect for antique shopping & dining out with friends. The tour around Jack's Distillery & how it's processed was fascinating , especially regarding the oak barrels & how they influence the flavours , it's remarkable how many they turn out each day. I didn't know that they've been using the same local spring for so long. I like how its hasn't changed much & they've remained true to tried & tested traditions. You took it in good spirits tasting those whiskeys , oh your face , I hope it didn't burn to much , you can look back & laugh , it's brave of you to not shy away from anything. Whiskey does take some getting used to ( it only began to take shape in France in the 80s at Warenghem in Brittany with Armorik) & it hasn't been as much part of the culture as it is with us , it does need to be savoured to be appreciated. The classic number 7 is a good introduction (affordable) that's not to strong to handle along with gentleman jack. Like You know by now the Tennessee Rye very spicy , rich & dry with a higher grain bottled at 90% but it is one of the few that hasn't been heated. Who's Cooler than old blue eyes , it doesn't surprise me that Frank would want to go out with a JD by his side , he was probably buried in style with a tuxedo to , what a legacy , so many memorable songs , I heard " my kind of girl" for the first time just recently. I like how they've included a book in the gift box all about his life & fondness for whiskey. Bobo's looked warm & friendly ( it did used to be a board house) with a perfect hostess , your southern style meal was delicious , anyone paying a visit has to try the famous fudge pie , it has to be with a folk. Let's hope that sharing stories while tucking in around the dinner table becomes more popular again. Catching fireflies & having 🍡 by the 🔥 as the 🌌 come out is what summer nights were made for after a fun-filled day. If your not keen on any more whisky straight , you might prefer it with cherries & orange in a 🍹 or grilled bourbon Peaches in a caramel sauce , it's also great with BBQs. You can find about how woman have played a important part in the whiskey industry at Bourbon real talk / women in whiskey not a new trend online. Thanks again Marie , ha don't have a snaccident & eat a big bag of yummy chocolate pecans. the Calgary 🐴 Stampede just got underway enjoy the parade if your watching. Take care , cute bracelet , Sunday Blessings 😊 💕 🌸✌️

Love these videos. I usually drink scotch, but I have to admit that when I just want something easy to drink, I love Jack Daniel's. I've tried all the ones shown in the video, but the Sinatra is my favorite, followed by the single barrel, and then the No. 7. I love this channel and that it is a complete cultural journey, to include the landscapes, countryside, everyday life, the people, and the food. It really is like a living journal through each little pocket of the US she visits, which is really incredible, and could probably serve as a sort of documentary and a shortcut to tips and tricks for many Europeans (and obviously those who live in France) about general areas of the US if they choose to visit, and what to expect from the local culture, people, food, and of course the landscape. For example, it takes quite a bit longer to drive various places in Texas than it does in Tennessee, just because the size of the states are so different. So it even offers a certain idea of what to expect traveling in the general area throughout a day and/or night. Great channel, and a great international ambassador for her country.

Yep..but it was in the hundreds, or maybe close to a thousand where I lived. Lighting bugs have vanished from a lot of places mainly due to pesticides being used on the fields. Sitting out on his porch and watching…looked like a mini universe floating in the fields…..with the stars above. What a sight!

Marie, you had me rolling on the floor laughing at the delay between you sipping the Jack Daniels and when you would shudder from the shock! Did you get to see the "safe" that Jack Daniels kicked and broke his big toe? He later died from gangrene because he was so stubborn he refuse to go to the doctor until it was too late! Personally, I prefer the Single Barrel Jack. Did you know during world war two, you could collect up "lightning bugs" and sell them to the military. They made a paste out of them and soldiers would use it as a low light source to read maps at night without being so obvious.

I did laugh a little when you showed us that you hadn't finished any of the samples, but that makes sense because you have never shown us a video of you out drinking. That does bring up an interesting question though. Do you have a favorite alcoholic drink? France is known worldwide for wine and Champagne, but I'm curious if you have a favorite alcoholic drink and if you have an interesting story to go along with that! 🤣 It's awesome that you got to hear all of the history, which is one of my favorite parts about going new places. Nice, you weren't far from Shelbyville, and the pawn shop where I work, probably even passed through here on your way. Glad you like our State. Born, raised here, TN.

Classic first Jack Daniels facial expression. Driving around metro Detroit you can see lots of Mustangs everyday.

When my dad and i did the tour, we sampled Gentleman Jack, which is regular JD that gets filtered a second time, and I liked it plenty more than the rest. So if you feel up for it and see it available, consider getting a bottle to try.

I not a fan of Jack Daniels straight “or neat” but a Jack and Coke is one of my favorite mixed drinks. Your enthusiasm for the tasting was great. PS: You seem to be developing an American, almost southern accent! PPS: I’ve had wine that’s been aged in Jack Daniels barrels! It had a distinctive note to it!
