Yes, if you pick an arbitrary date, you can fudge numbers which is why you had to say "SINCE July 2019" in order to get Colby to seem more active. This fight reminds me so much of bigger versions of Petr Yan vs Merab. Leon isn’t quite the striker that Yan is but he’s better at takedown defense. Colby has an unbelievable gas tank but not quite what we saw Merab diaplay against Yan. Colby is much more willing to stand and bang which might be to his detriment. Bottom line: Colby has had a long time to recover from the second war with Usman. His birth certificate reads 35 but considering the damage (or lack there of) and really the lack of pro fights for a fighter of that age (Covington, at 35, has 20 pro fights. Charles Oliveira, at 34, has 44). Then when you take into account how Colby doesn’t drink, doesn’t party, doesn’t smoke and really does nothing but train and really he’s more 25 than 35. Edwards skill set is really a little overrated and it took a perfect storm for him to be here. He was a couple of minutes away from losing 50-44 before the miracle head kick. Then in his third bought with Usman, the Nigerian came back too quickly from such a brutal KO and unfortunately for him his knees are deteriorating at a fast, alarming pace. Colby doesn’t have the nuclear left hand that Usman has, but he has much fresher knees, he’s had a lot of time off and he has one of the best gas tanks in the game. It’s Colby’s fight to lose as long as he doesn’t get sloppy or comfortable, not even for a split second.

Merab is on EPO, he shot over 40 times and most of them were stuffed. Name one other fighter who failed that many takedowns and continued to shoot? Colby has a ridiculous gas tank too but not like that. If he fails 6 or 7 takedowns in a row he’ll strike for a bit. Also Leon won the first round on all 3 cards before the headkick and then was losing the next 4. Thats 49-46, idk where you got this 50-44 from. Then he won the 3rd fight easily. Watch Colby against Masvidal again who was washed when he fought Colby. Colby got dropped and was also getting his legs chewed up on occasion. Leon will destroy Colbys legs and force him to fight a different fight than hes used to. This is 2023, the game has changed and Colby is going to see why he should have drained himself to make 155 like the rest of them.

We’ve already seen Colby’s biggest weakness exposed which is taking body shots. The way JDM rips shots to the gut then cuts upstairs it would ruin Colby (who is a bit past his prime already).

80% of how Colby and Usman fight is similar. The difference is Usman’s knees are gone so Colby is now the much more inferior fighter. Striking though Usman has a big edge. He’s much more technical and significantly more powerful. Someone mentioned this about Covington and it makes a ton of sense. They said his striking has gotten much sloppier since leaving American Top Team. He went from practicing against quite arguably the best gym in MMA to sparring against a majority of guys who aren’t UFC fighters and just local area novice boxers from the Miami area. That’s why his striking went from quite possibly earning him the first fight against Usman had it gone to decision to absolutely getting bashed in (I think) the 2nd round against Usman which was one of the easiest 10-8’s I’ve ever seen. Colby leaves his chin up a lot when he charges in with that wild combination where he starts off throwing a right haymaker followed by an uppercut and then combinations to the body. In a nutshell: As long as Colby avoids eating a late KO blow (like Usman did in his second fight vs Leon and, ironically, Leon in the opposite role against Nate where he dominated for 4.5 rounds, then drilled an incredible shot but being Nate Diaz instead of going in there and finishing the fight he pulled something only Nate Diaz would do and stood there and pointed and laughed at a Leon that was stumbling and didn’t know what planet he was on).
