Jackson Hole One Fly founder. Jack Dennis tells the story of how the concept of the One Fly came from legendary fly fisherman extraordinaire Lee Wulff and one of the greatest sports broadcasters of all time, Curt Gowdy, creator of the American Sportsmen Show. It is a delightful tale of friendship and sharing and how friends helped create a new event that has raised over $20 million for stream improvements. For 38 years in Jackson Hole, One Fly has progressed to show anglers how to raise money for friendly competition. Many conservation groups have adopted the concept to help their stream improvement projects and raise money to assist veterans in learning to fly fish. This year, the American Museum of Fly Fishing is honoring our foundation and its efforts to improve flyfishing by selecting one Fly. It’s a wonderful event. Lots of fun. I fished in it several times and actually our team won the event in 1995. Great memories. We fished a Turcks Tarantula.

Thanks for this story, Jack. I lived in Riverton in 1986 and heard about the contest but never made it over to see the event. I hope younger fly fishers are watching your videos. There seems to be a lot of lore lost, and they can learn a lot watching them. By the way, there was very little written about spinning deer hair for the muddler head back in those days.
